Range report FS M&P with CT
Guys, I'm way late jumping on the polymer pistol bandwagon. I'm a 1911 type from way, way back. My only other non-1911 guns are a set of S&W gen 3 guns in each of the 4 calibers offered, and they frankly don't see a lot of use these days. I occasionally get the 1006 out to play.
I've had a bit of an itch for a M&P ever since they came out. It is the only polymer pistol that has had a grip that I thought was e en half decent. Anyway, I pulled the trigger on a used FS in 9mm with the CT grip. Very nice gun and a decent price.
I took it to the range yesterday to wring it out a little. I was shooting handloads with 125 gr cast bullets and a healthy dose of 231. Accuracy was pretty durn good. I did not try to bench the gun. It's not a target pistol. I was surprised a bit that the recoil was as noticeable as it was. Not at all objectionable, just more than any of my all steel 9's. To be expected, of course. The durn gun shoots forever without reloading. Almost double the 1911's.
It was late afternoon and as the direct sunlight started to fade just a little I could pick up the laser dot pretty easily. At one point I has the target area pretty smoked up and I could see the laser beam all the way to the target. I'm going to have to adjust on the laser some. It's high compared to the sights. Anyone know offhand what size Allen wrench they take?
I've been reading about the various trigger enhancements. I didn't think the trigger was all that bad. I haven't measured it yet, but it felt like around 5# give or take a bit. With no safety of any sort, I'm not sure I want a trigger that's a lot lighter. Well, maybe a little lighter.
This ones going to probably end up on my nightstand.
One last note. The CT grip is certainly a bit larger than the regular "medium" back strap. While the gun still feels good in my hand, it isn't as comfortable as the standard grip. Don't know if the CT is offered in different sizes is is one size fits all.
