Does the Apex kit make a lot of difference?

Hello everyone. I really do like the ergonomics of the M&P pistols.
What I don't like is the stock trigger. I have gotten spoiled with my Walther PPQs.
If I get an M&P and install the Apex trigger kit into it will it give me
1. Positive reset feedback?
2. Short trigger reset?
3. Smooth out some of the creep?

Anyone here have a M&P and a PPQ? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sorry I don't have any knkowledge of the Apex kits for the M&P's. I have been wanting an M&P for a while now until I keep reading reviews and hearing about the PPQ. Spoiled is right if the reviews are even close to correct. None of my LGS stock the PPQ and I don't know if they will which means I'm still waiting to hold one in my hand to see if it's truely calling my name.

How's the PPQ feel in the hand next to the M&P?

They both have great ergonomics. The M&P is slightly larger. It has a 2 round advantage in 9mm and a 3 round advantage in .40. I have PPQ's in both 9 and .40. I would call the PPQ a mid-sized pistol and the M&P full-sized. And that is why I am looking at the M&P, I want a full-sized pistol.

In regards to the PPQ's trigger, it is HANDS DOWN the best out of the box striker fired pistol on the market!

Which trigger kit are you planning on getting? They have a few kits and different options. They all make quite a big difference.

But the game changer is the Forward set sear trigger kit. Every one of my buddies that has tried my M&P with FSS trigger has gotten the same trigger afterwards. I'm a 1911 guy and the FSS trigger is as close as you're gonna get to the same feel. It's awesome.

I was not sure which one to get. FSS sounds good though. Thanks for your input.

I can't attest to the APEX triggers, but I have played with Glock trigger jobs, and found that I was probably at my best with the standard 5.5, well lubed and a lot of dry fire. My M&P 45 trigger is stock and and I never really found a lot of fault with it, although I've played with some 40s and 9s at the gun store that a lot more rough and and no noticable reset. I don't currently own a 1911, but when I shoot one, I have to "reprogram" my thinking if its a 4-5 lb trigger as I'll end up jerking. Not to take business away from the custom gun parts folks, but I'd work a lot with the standard trigger before putting the money into a trigger job, especially if its a carry gun.

The 9mm and .40 M&P's I have handled in shops have all had pretty crappy triggers. Honestly that has what has kept me from an M&P. The PPQ has me spoiled with it's trigger. I used to shoot 1911's for competition and had to reprogram myself when I went to a striker fired pistol as well. But I had to do the same with revolvers so it is no big deal.
I did have a Glock 23 and did work on it but still hated the thing. The M&P has much better ergos. If I can fix the trigger I will get one. It will not be a carry gun though. More of a range or IDPA gun.

I installed the DCAEK (duty/carry action enhancement kit) in my 45c witch is my EDC. Huge difference. Went from a crunchy heavy trigger pull to a very smooth, crisp break, nice positive reset. The pre-travel is still very long, breaks almost to the back of the trigger guard @ 5.5lbs. I've heard that the trigger will eventually smooth out over time with a lot of rounds down range.

I have installed the competition AEK on my 9pro and the DAEK on my sons 9. Both kits smoothed the triggers up a lot. Got rid of the grit and roughness. I have not tested the weight but I'm guessing around 2.75 on the competition and about 5.5 on the DAEK. The pre travel on the competition is still there but hardly noticeable. I really didn't notice a difference in the pre travel on the DAEK but it is just smoother.

I did install the RAM on both pistols and it helped reset tremendously.

Now if someone would come up with a trigger reset kit for the M&P like the one for the Glock, it would diffenately help with practice. If someone knows of one that I haven't heard about, point me in the right direction.

Are you listening APEX?

RAM???

RAM is a reset assist mechanism. APEX sells it for $23. Their HARD SEAR is $40 and the ULTIMATE STRIKER BLOCK costs $35. I bought my M&P 9 with these three components (installation included) from G&R Tactical.

Compared to my wife's M&P 9 there is a NIGHT and DAY difference in the triggers. I wouldn't call it a 1911 trigger, but wen I dry fire hers the front and rear sights practically criss - cross. When I dry fire mine? No movement.

I just installed the Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit ($89 from Apex) in my full size M&P 45. Amazing difference. There is zero drag/grit in the trigger pull now, the trigger breaks crisply at about 5lbs, and the trigger reset is tangible with a light click as it resets. The online installation videos are great. Took me right at an hour to install the Ultimate Striker Block, Hard Sear, and trigger spring. The Competitiin Kit is $94 and does the same thing, just drops the trigger pull to under 3 pounds. A comparable trigger job from a smith would be maybe $300. Most people say the Apex kit beats the M&P Pro configuration. Well worth the cost if you're comfortable taking your gun apart to the degree necessary to install it.

I installed the Competition Kit into my 5" PRO. I now have a 2.75# crisp trigger. I also installed the RAM which made little difference to the feel of the reset. The reset s much shorter.

Take Care

Bob

So you who have installed the DCEAK, does it improve the action on a compact model enough to hit anything beyond 15'. I and a decent shot with my ill sized M&P up to 50', but can't hardly hit paper with my wife's M&P9c (granted I have about 1500 rounds through mine, and about 200 through hers), and if a trigger upgrade is really what we need, I would rather spend money on that, rather than on bullets trying to make it shoot better.
