At the range Friday with my M&P 9 that I've owned about a month (or 700+ rounds--however you like to measure gun time) and decide to moveout to 15 yards from my usual 7 or so. All my shots were waaaay right. Nice grouping, but my neighbor's target was in danger. Then I noticed that the front sight was significantly offset to the left. 10 minutes at the McBride's Guns gunsmith bench solved that problem, but I'm curious if anyone has seen this from a factory new M&P or was mine just special?
Misaligned sights in general are so common that I carry a brass punch set and small hammer in my range bag. It's come in handy when I help during rifle sight-in days at my gun club before hunting season.
I fixed a young ladies M&P 9C a few weeks ago.
Edit: I did not mean that misaligned M&P sights are common; just that misaligned sights in general are common

interesting! Never had that problem with 3 MPs that I owned...
on my mp9c the front sight was replaced, and it came back with it properly aligned as well
could it have walked in the lifetime of the pistol?
speaking of that, my taurus 1911 is kind of off.... I sent it for warranty regarding the issue to taurus and they just replaced the front sight, and sent a group from 10 yards which was dead on.
then I took it to the range and same problem. gave it to another 1911 owner that was shooting there and same problem as well!
While cleaning our M&P 9 the other day, I noticed that the front sight was off to the left a bit. Im a complete novice, so I wont attempt to fixed it just yet. We are not shooting any further than 7 yds just yet, as the wife and I are new to this. The front sites on my 40 and 357 look fine though...
My 9c sight came from the factory nearly off the slide to the left. It was grossly out of whack and clearly missed by S&W QC but it was fixed. I check them all much better before buying now. No problems since.
The front sight on my M&P9 Pro was visibly off to the left about 1/8" or so when purchased new. I used calipers and a sight pusher to adjust both the front and rear sights and confirmed things afterward shooting from a rest.
Front sight on my MP 40 f/s is off. Same situation as OldFencer. The white dot also came out but that was fixed with a little White-Out. Going to correct next time I'm out to the range or just may wait and replace with night sights. Other than this sight issue my M&P has been flawless.
