M&P Shield Pocket Carry
I've heard some people that the shield is too big for pocket carry. I'm here to tell you that you CAN pocket carry the Shield. I picked up a couple different pocket holster to try. Blackhawk #3 from Wal-Mart. The Shield fits, but's it's very snug and doesn't print well.

Next I picked up the Desantis Nemesis. It's for the Walther PPS which is a similar size to the Shield. Fit's perfect! Here are a few pics of how it prints in cargo shorts.Prints like a wallet or cell phone. Very comfy to carry. Love it.

When you have $50 to blow, consider getting a leather holster from Grizzle (or some other custom maker). You'll appreciate better retention compared to the DeSantis, and a lot better durability.

Looks like you can get a better full grip on the gun while it's in the desantis holster. That's my preferred holster for pocket carry and sometimes I'll go to the Blackhawk if I'm carrying in pockets that are too narrow to allow the desantis to fit.

I've pocket carried for many years, front pocket, and the Shield is no exception. I unstitched the Desantis Kahr PM-9 pocket holster at the trigger guard area and restitched for the Shield. works perfect! I quickly got used to the extra 3 onces.
I will look into the leather and the Blackhawk, thanks!

If anyone out there has heard of a Recluse Holster, I just want you all to know that they are designing one to fit the Shield. It will fit some laser equipped guns. I use a Recluse for my summer carry with a Ruger LCP. Works with and without a laser. I will get one for pocket carry.

The shield was bought for pocket carry only. I have no problems with it.

I have used my Galco pocket holster I bought for my j-frame. Works well and has good retention. I have a couple Desantis iwb holsters, one leather one nylon, and took them apart, canted the belt clip about 20* and restitched. I did this for my j-frame and liked it so I tried it with the Shield. I like a canted holster so this works for me. Thanks for the tips on the other makers.
Frank.

As I just posted a little bit ago I plan to pocket carry with a DeSantis as well. The Shield really fits the bill.

Some people pocket carry and some cant. The shield handle length wise for me is a little tough. The thickness is just right.

Hey xICEMANx What model # was that for the Desantis Nemesis? Was looking for one for the walther pps like you mentioned, but didn't find a specific listing only #'s like n38bjg3bz0. Quite a few #'s listed at that. What the one you have? Shielded, what # is the one you have? Thanks Ron

The Shield was no problem for me when I tried one in the pocket of a properly cut pair of casual khaki's and a pair of shorts with basically the same cut. I'm a little guy,a little less that 509 and 165 lbs( but watch out! ).
Of course the dealer and a police Major friend laughed because the price tag was hanging out. They told me I looked like Minnie Pearl.
It's not for jeans, for sure, but it can be done with the proper attire.

I tried my Shield 40 in a Mika pocket holster made for a Kahr P40 Covert. The holster's size and shape was perfect. The fit was just the slightest bit snug. Close enough that I'm sure leaving the Shield in it for a day or two will make it a perfect fit.

+1 for the nemesis.
It fits better then the list of guns it was originally designed for.
I am a little surprised ! This little M&P is much easier to carry than my LCR was . If you can pocket carry an LCR this is a breeze.
DeSantis makes amazing pocket holsters at amazing prices -- I am surprised this fit so "PERFECT" !!!

I've had it so long I can't begin to say what the # was, but I think xICEMANx is right. His does look a bit newer than mine. In fact the covering on his & mine are completely different.
Good Luck & sorry I wasn't much help.

I have tried several pocket holsters and the one I like the best for my 642 is made by FIST. The holster is made from ultra thin kydex and it does not matter what type of clothing you are wearing because the pistol is drawn from the holster by using the thumb push, which works flawlessly. Some holsters I have tried in the past required tighter pockets to prevent the pistol from coming out with the holster attached. With the FIST, you can wear shorts with loose pockets and it does not matter. I have not checked yet, but I would imagine that they could/do make one for the Shield.

I think they will be good ones, however, they just upped the existing ones by $5 each. Bet the Shield ones will be even more due to popularity. It would be very easy to make a similar one yourself if you are handy at making things.
