Shield video review

Love your review. By far one of the best I have seen!!

Thank, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I cover events like SHOT Show and the NRA show, so I get to see things fairly early on. It takes a lot to impress me. The new XDS for example, I'm just not excited about it.

When I handed the Shield I was impressed more than I usually am. I've been a fan of the M&P for a while. The one thing that I thought would kill it for me was the manual safety. I was ready to write it off (for my own personal use) and stick with my CM9 for a pocket carry 9mm.

It didn't take long for me to realize I could easily sweep the safety off (being right handed makes this possible of course) on the draw. Since I carried a 1911 for many years, this is a relatively familiar task and I fell right back into it with the M&P. That little lever is surprisingly well placed and designed. I can brush it off easily every time.

I fell in love with the Shield. I think S&W hit this one out of the park.

HAHA I wanted to get the new XDS pistol. Never had a 45. I went to the SW site to check on the Walthers and saw the Shield advertised on the home page. I went to see it the next day and bought one.

The safety was a seller for me as I was looking for a gun for my boys and a Bersa 380 was in my sights because of the safety. I am used to the DA/SA. Striker fires are new to me

Love the SHIELD, Forget the XDS, just replace my front sight with a Dawson fiber optic and blacked out the rear sights.

Looking forward to the range tomorrow.

Great post and review

Excellent review. You sure covered a lot in a short period of time. I was also pleasantly surprised that you reviewed the Phantom holster by Raven RCS, which I have used almost exclusively with all of my handguns for the past two years. I did the quick ship order for my Shield holster and received it last week along with a mag carrier.
Thanks!

BTW .. The Trijicon HD night sights fit nicely on the Shield.

Hope you don't mind that I add a pic of the IWB w/soft loops

Thanks for the info on the HD sights. I will have to order some next week.

I've not replaced the sights on any of my M&P's, does it require a special sight tool to drift the rear sight in?

I'm a huge fan of Raven holsters. I have drawers full of holsters I've collected over the years. I bet I have at least 40 holsters sitting here I've not used in years for various handguns.

I was at the Indy 1500 gun show a few years ago and the Raven guys where there making holsters. I figured I would get one made for my handgun.

Now every single handgun I have that I carry resides in a Phantom holster. At SHOW Show, Tom (the owner) gave me a new Vanguard 2 for my G19. Let me tell you, I've never found a more useful concealment holster in my life. Hopefully they have one for the Shield someday. It's simply the best deep concealment holster I've ever owned.

Raven is a great company that really leads the pack when it comes to innovative designs. There are at least 60 companies now cloning their Phantom holster.

I totally agree, very well done. As I've been in radio & TV for 27 yrs you have a very good presentation style, well done. Also I was wondering about the take down as the manual says to move down the yellow bar, I'v seen yourself and another pull the trigger to do it, good to know.:)

Yeah .. they sure get copied a lot, but none have measured up to their quality IMO. The soft loops seen in my pics are so much slimmer but after a full year, still don't show any belt wear. Doug Holloway from ATEi, put my Trijicon HDs on for me. His shop is only 1/2 hr from my house. He also did the sear and trigger work on my Shield the very day that I bought it .. trigger is now 4lbs.

Another great video, I enjoy them all. A question about your holster, does it wear the Melonite finish at all? Looks like a comfortable rig.
