Default New M&P 22 failure

Hello all

I am new to the forum. I have owned quite a few firearms, but only recently bought a Smith. An M&P 9. I was looking to start shooting striker fired weapons instead of my usual DA/SA hammer fired. After firing a friend's I wanted one for myself. After putting about 500 rounds through it, I saw the M&P 22 and thought it would be great to train on, since it imitates it's big brothers. Took it home, cleaned and lubed it and brought it to the range. 100 rounds of CCI 22lr ( the recommended ammo ) worked fine. Went home, cleaned, lubed and after a few days went to the range again. After 50 rounds it had a FTF. I pulled the slide to see a second round attempting to feed. I dropped the mag and a few pieces fell out of the pistol ( a pin and a small dark square metal piece is all I could find ). I was able to eject the loaded round. I took the pieces and the pistol home. It was too late to call S&W customer support. The pistol is 2 weeks old. I am very disappointed that this happened. I have owned Rugars, H&Ks, and a bunch of Sigs. I always care for my firearms and this is the first problem I have had like this. A brand new pistol should not just fall apart while you are firing it normally.

I don't want to let this effect how I feel about M&Ps. I am almost wondering about my new M&P 9 now. Has anyone had a problem like this before? I am guessing S&W will tell me to ship it and they will fix or replace. From what I understand, the customer service is excellent.

Sorry to have such a bummer post as my first one. I guess i'll see what happens with this.

the M&P 9mm is built way different than the .22 , the 9mm wich I own is great and I love it as most will tell you on this forum, the problem with the .22 is very strange and I have never heard of anything like it.. Smith & Wesson should repair or replace it for you though I hear their customer service is amazing, though I have not had to use it.. good luck and let us know how it goes.

As i stated in a post yesterday, I am sending mine back to S&W for FTE/FTF problems. They immediately suggested I send the gun back for repair or replacement. I dont have any other M&P's but considering the .22 is made by walther to look like the other M&P's I doubt you'll see the same problems

Mine's been problem free through at least 4 bricks of Federal Bulk (I've stopped counting), and one brick of Winchester 555. I've had the occasional malfunction due to ammunition, but that's the nature of .22lr.

Of the hundreds (maybe thousands?) of M&P 22 pistols produced, there is bound to be a few that will have issues. Those who have issues will be rightfully vociferous in airing their issues.

Those who nave no issues are mostly quiet, because we have no problems.

To the OP, I'm sure S&W will make your M&P 22 right. The best part of owning a S&W is the limited lifetime service warranty.
