I'm sure it's been discussed before, but... I read (Guns & Ammo I think) where it might not be suitable for +P. Is that right?

I shoot UMC +P (bulk pack) 9mm out of my M&P FS and Compact. I assume it would be fine, but do not own a Sheild yet. Someone with more experience should know, otherwise give S&W a quick call and ask.

You can shoot +p out of the Shield but it isn't recommended all the time. I have Hornady 135 +p 9mm for my EDC but use 115gr and 124gr for every range shooting.

Same here. My range ammunition is usually 115 gr PMC Bronze. My EDC is Speer 124 gr +P GDHP. I shoot the +P enough to ensure it functions reliably.

S&W website, under FAQ states:

What kind of ammunition should I use in my S&W handgun?

Use only commercially manufactured ammunition with internal ballistic pressures which are in strict accordance with the specifications of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI).

Be certain all ammunition you use complies with the SAAMI specifications. If you are uncertain, contact your ammunition supplier for verification.

If you would like any further information on specific ammunition, you may contact one of the major ammunition manufacturers from the link listed below:

Ammunition Info - Smith & Wesson

Since most all reputable ammunition manufacturers make all their ammo to SAAMI specs, including +P ammo, it is fine to shoot +P. In the gun operational manual it further states excessive use of +P ammo may cause excessive wear. So for defensive carry use the +P. Practice at the range with it. I don't think anyone is going to be shooting excessive amounts of +P, due to it costing in excess of $1.00 per round.

I shoot +p in both my Shield and XDS without any issues as of yet. I field clean after every range trip a haven't seen any concerns.. .
