Default mp9c safety

Okay, i purchased an mp9c without a safety.

I know that some come with, i have seen that you can remove the safety if you dont want it..

My question: can you add the safety? If so, is that something you can ship to Smith and Wesson for installation???

Thank you...

No, unless the gun was drilled at the factory to accept it.

By the way, the M&P has 3 internal safeties that are released by pulling the trigger. That is what I carry.
What you are asking about is an optional add-on external safety that only blocks the trigger. If you wanted it, you should have bought it factory installed.

I've owned several M&Ps with a thumb safety...and all of them felt "mushy." No positive click, on or off. The only M&P model with a good safety, IMO, is the Shield.

I think you are better off without a thumb safety, and without a magazine disconnect, on the M&Ps (except for the thumb safety on the Shield.)

I wouldn't bother with the thumb safety, it is redundant as the gun already has several internal safeties. Save money and time for training and practice.

No need having a "mushy" thumb safety. With a very modicum of work it is very easy to change any "mushiness" to a substantial crisp feeling safety. I did so with my 9C and it's great. A simple matter of making the detent notch a little more pronounced. A small gunsmith file or careful application of a dremel tool. Having said that, I agree, as furnished from the factory, "mushy' is an apt description, but so easy to change to a positive feeling safety. Simply a matter of preference, no right or wrong here.

Whatever floats your boat.

Well, darn...you should put out a tutorial on how to do that. A video would be especially helpful for clods like me.

No offense to any here, but I've yet to understand this obsession with external safeties. The reason FS and Compact M&P's are offered with a thumb safety is because some police departments, (the original target audience), required one. Whether you consider an external safety a reduntant component or not, (I do), it's another step you've got to practice if an equipped M&P is your EDC. I carried a 1911 for years, a piece that requires a specific drill each time it's drawn. Hand high on the grip to engage that safety, thumb on top of that safety while deciding if the threat's enough to disengage and prepare to fire. A lot to think about in a stress situation. I'm not a pro, I couldn't afford to shoot every day to where that particular sequence became second nature. Much as I like my 1911, I don't carry it any more. Don't use the thumb saftey on my Shield either. The trigger safeties are sufficient IMHO.

Thanks for insight guys, With what I know now, I don't think I'd add one anyway. I wouldn't want that mushy feeling.

I think the argument with manual safeties seems to be half and half. Maybe quadruple redundant, but with muscle memory and practice i think you'd be able to release a safety in the heat of the moment.

hey Sherlock OKFCO5, You are very correct in what you said, I wish I could go back and make a different decision in January when I was standing over the glass counter looking at every possible firearm with various options available. Off to the time machine forum...

Thanks Regulator your insight was helpful

Bottom line, if your 9c has a square plug toward the back where the safety would go, you can retrofit a safety. If it doesn't, you cannot install and external safety.
