I just figured I would post my results. Last Thursday evening I installed Ameriglo iDots on my Shield.

I used this sight tool:
B & J Machine P500 Pro Universal Front Rear Sight Tool

I used this Bore Sight
Amazon.com: Bushnell Laser Boresighter: Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31vAXcSRqVL.@@AMEPARAM@@31vAXcSRqVL

The bore sight was a little too long for the Shield's short barrel, so I had to improvise a little and got things working correctly.

I "eyballed" the new sights to where I had thought the originals lined up, and a quick visual inspection had me thinking I pushed the front one a little too far. The laser confirmed and I adjusted back.

I will be shooting tonight to test accuracy. The great thing about the tool is that I can use it at the range to make adjustments if necessary. As I am typing this I am also remembering that I need to get some loctite for the set screw.

The video instructions I followed are here:
S&W M&P Front Sight Replacement - YouTube
M&P Shield Slide Disassembly - YouTube

I hope this helps folks that want to venture to do it themselves. I will post a day light photo and accuracy results later.

EDIT for additional pics:

I would be interested in knowing how you liked them. I've got Trijicons on my 40c & I'm pretty happy with them. But Trijicon doesn't seem to be in any hurry to make a set for the Shield.

you chose well. I have Ameriglo pro i-dots on my full size, compact, 22, and shield. So much easier on my eyes to line up. Just drop the dot in the rounded back notch and pull the trigger!

Not entirely true. From what I have read Trijicon manufactures the tritium vial and sells it to several manufactures including Ameriglo.

I bought the Ameriglo SW-145 Classic three dot sights.

As you can see in the photos below the sights came in an Ameriglo box, but has Trijicon labels on the sights themselves.

BTW, I am extremely happy with these sights.

I'd love to see detail pics of the rear iDot sight on the Shield. I have Ameriglo iDot Pros (SW-301) on my 9c that I'm thinking of putting on my new Shield, but it seems there will be some overhang on the rear sight (I don't have calipers to confirm). Please post a few pics if you get the chance, thanks!

Do any of these night sight options interfere with the more popular kydex holsters? Or are they no taller than the factory sights?

Edit: for a Shield

The sights I have pictured above are specifically for the shield and are the same size as the factory sights. I use it in a pjholster's all kydex holster with no problems.

Cool. I'm going to check them out. What kind of prices have you found?

Thanks.

Thanks!!! I've got a PJ on order. Big relief!

What model did you go with? SW-?

I am almost certain they are the SW-141. They were a gift, and I know they are regular "iDot" and not "Pro iDot". Green/Green. The front sight has a white ring around the green.

Well, mine do not. I have an Old Faithful IWB, and it does not interfere one bit.

My apologies for not posting pics as promised. After confirming accuracy with factory loads, I switched to some of my own loads, and I had a squib which resulted in a projectile getting stuck in the barrel. The next load chambered, and set back into the casing, and fortunately the slide did not get back into battery or the front of the gun would have been down range. Anyway, that took most of my focus last night, and I forgot to take more detailed pics. I will post the rear as soon as I can. It fits very nice.

New pics added.

They aren't easy to come by so I didn't shop around, I ordered right from Ameriglo's website in the link I posted above. $100 for iDots and $110 for 3 dots.

Installed the Amerigo Pro i-dots yesterday. They are SW-345 in lumi lime.
They also come in orange which I think are pretty good also but the lime really pops. They show up very well in all lighting conditions and against all backgrounds.
I also installed the Apex Carry trigger kit last week and the combination of the trigger and the sights have made a really good gun, now perfect in my opinion. Sorry for the poor pics , but the last one is the first 5 shots at 5 yards that I fired with the new sights, and my groups and placement got even better after that. Can't say enough about how easy these sights are to use. I was getting a lot of flyers with factory three dot sights but that's a thing of the past with the i-dots. These will be going on all of my other handguns now.

I'm in the process of trying to find these sights. I am looking for the orange i-dot pros. I have this set up on my 1911, except with the heine straight 8, same concept. However, finding these sights is almost as hard as finding the shield. All the places I have checked have these sights out of stock.
Anyone know where I can get the orange pro i-dots for the shield?

I got the Ameriglo I-Dot Orange/Green off Amazon. I just checked a few minutes ago and they have two stores selling them for about $90. I really like the Orange/Green, very easy and fast to align the sightes.

I got a set of TruGlo TFO Brite-Sites off Buds Gun Shop a month and a half ago... I got them for like 70? Lowest price of anywhere online. Buds lets you use their make an offer thing and it's calibrated to be able to offer you the lowest price possible. The thing is, it doesn't change. Lets say for example on my Galco King Tuk. I believe MSRP is $75 ... and on all the discount websites its available for $58. When you go to Buds and make an offer, say of 20 bucks, it will say, Nope too low, how bout 50? Then your next offer is 25, Nope 50, next offer 35? nope 50 - last offer 48? Nope 50- it gives you the lowest price the site will sell to you FIRST, but it's still generally the lowest price you will find anywhere online.

I have Trijicon standard night sights Green/Yellow on my Glock 23, my Sig MK25 came with the issued SIGLITE green/green, and on my Shield I went with said TruGlo TFOs Green/Yellow. I would have liked to get the Trijicons for my Shield, but they're crazy expensive. Plus the TruGlo has the fiber optics which glow like the burning sun during the day... if you do outdoor shooting, it's amazing how bright the fiber optics are.

And someone else mentioned about Trijicon- they do in fact make the actual tritium for a significant portion of the market. You need some serious governmental certification (and oversight) to be able to process radioactive materials and with their government contracts Trijicon is a major operation. That said, some people just prefer the styles of Mepro/Ameriglo/XS Sights etc. which all have various different configurations . I love Trijicon, I would own each and every optic type thing they make if they were in the realm of affordability.

Sadly, you need Special Forces salaries to go with their Special Forces sights.
