Hi All Shield Owners,

I just got off the phone with Pearce Grips. I asked them if they were going to be producing an extension for the 7-round Shield magazine. The person at the other end of the line said that it was highly likely and might appear late in the summer. There are a lot of us who are hoping this will be sooner than later!

If more of us call them at their contact number, (800) 390-9420 (US only), or email them at [email protected] requesting them, it might help to accelerate the process.

I'd like to see a grip plug for the open backstrap cavity myself.

Thanks for the heads up.

I emailed them a couple weeks ago with this very request but received no reply. I assumed that meant they had no interest, but we will find out this summer I suppose.

Personally I don't see much point in one on the 7 round mag as the 8 round is not much bigger.

For me, the part of the mag that "shows" the most, if it is going to "show", is the corner of the mag to the rear. That is precisely what is reduced with the Pearce extension while still giving a place for a full four finger grip.

A Pearce extension for the 7-round mag would make the mag more useful for me. Without a full grip, the 7 round mag presents a different feel when shooting.

I have Pearce extensions on the short mags for my Springfield XDm 3.8 Compact. With them, the gun feels and shoots the same as with the long, larger capacity mags. I don't have to remember to make any adjustments, because of a change in the mags, when I switch mags .

In the stress of a defensive situation, which hopefully will never present itself, I would prefer that a difference in grips not be an additional factor in the accuracy of shot placement.

For what it's worth . . .

I had also emailed them and asked if they had plans for these extensions and got the same no reply. This time I figured I would call them. Perhaps they are treating the emails as sort of a vote tally, though not responding to their customer's inquiries is somewhat troubling. That is not a practice that is typically associated with long term business success.

Let's overwhelm them with both emails and phone calls.

I did like LenC, I email twice to Pearce and got no reply then after reading this I just called them. Very nice lady answered the phone and they have been swamped with work but Mr Pearce did buy a Shield with the intent of working up a model for the Shield. BUT she indicated the inquiries had trailed off and is not sure if they would do anything. I indicated to her that it has taken many months for us to get a Shield in the first place and spare mags seem more months away from being locally available. I asked her to let Mr Pearce know I was counting on him to get a product out for our Shields so as LenC stated, best to call them and let them know from each of you directly. for now we wait.

Will try to remember to do that tomorrow. I've been surprised they weren't already on that one.

I took Len's advise and called too. Basically got the same story as holmt56...requests had tailed off and there were no plans to produce. She confirmed he did purchase a shield, but if they began development, it would be 5 mths before available. Keep calling folks!

Why not just use the 8 round magazine?

For pocket conceal neither the Pearce grip or 8 round magazine trump the flush magazine. Besides I can get all three fingers on flush grip and I have large hands. Maybe that is why the interest isn't there for a Pearce grip for a Shield?

Well for me the 8 round mag does fit my little finger just fine and gives me that comfortable feeling of control. I can shoot the flush mag with my little finger under but just does not have the same feel. The extended mag does work but extends the rear of the grip and shows more for carry. I have shot other compact guns with the pearce part and it works perfect. I don't know what size other folks hands are but I can just get two fingers on the grip without an extension. Please keep calling Pearce even if it is just to help the rest of out. Thanks if you do.

If you go to their web page, "Pearce" does not make any products for any S&W pistol. I wonder about that.

+1 I agree, an extension to a seven would make it the same size as the 8 rounder. Why would one want to cheat themselves out of the extra round?

For concealment, and costs difference between a 7 and 8 rd magazine.

Adding the extension would make the 7 rounder just as big as the 8 IMO. Best practice for concealment is leave th 7 as is, again, IMO. To each hi or her own.

The NDZ Performance extension bases are about twice the price of the Pearce, but they're aluminum, they look good and (because they're aluminum) can be etched (like the rear slide plates).
The email I got from Pearce earlier in the week said they're estimating the end of the Year... But it looks like they simply keep pushing that date back as time goes on.

I'm pondering waiting on the Pearce, or going with a set of etched NDZs.
I shoot just fine without the pinky extensions, but I kinda like them.

Personally, I would rather have them be plastic/polymer like the original at a lower price. Don't really care about any etching. I'll wait a bit longer to see if Pearce comes through.
