Both are in stock at my LGS. The M&P is going for $529. First, is that a good price for the M&P? Second, which one would you get and why?

I bought my first handgun other than a .25 I used to carry on the truck, and chose the SDVE 9mm. Now I want a .45 and like to get opinions from those with experience.

When I went shopping for a new .45acp semi-automatic pistol two years ago I looked at the Glock and the S&W. The Glock was just too darn big to fit in my little girlie hands. The M&P just felt so much better to me, so it is the one I bought. I actually looked at quite a few .45s and the M&P was the only one in my price range that felt comfortable to me. You really can't go wrong with either, they are both fine firearms just pick the one that fits you best.

I've held both and shot one (m&p). If I was buying it would be the smith based on how much better it felt in my hand. The way it shoots is the icing on the cake!

I did not shoot the sd9 before buying it, but I think I will see if my range has both these weapons to shoot before deciding. Thanks for you input.

We had a good conversation about this very topic in a previous thread. http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-...66-your-impressions-glock-21-v-m-p-45acp.html

I had owned and shot a Glock 22 for a while and was looking to move from the .40 to .45, so naturally I though of the G21, but the M&P45 also caught my eye. My LGS was out of G21s for quite some time with no prospects of getting any and one day I spotted an M&P45 in flat dark earth under the glass and after getting feedback from the forum I went for it. I have been really please with it. There are a few differences between the Glock and it, I posted my impressions in this thread. http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/306426-m-p-v-glock-my-impressions.html

Smith357 makes a good point it's a big gun, if carrying concealed or for those with medium to small hands it may be too large.

The M&P has better ergonomics in my mind, the 4.25 version of the M&P is a good concealed choice. I own 2 M&P 45's and like them better for this reason.

Both are accurate guns and fine guns. My gun closet has had both guns in it.

The Glock advantages are things like an improved trigger, night sights and other parts are much cheaper than the M&P and the resale value is higher.

i have used both & i prefer the m&p over the glock. handle both & i think you will find the smith to be much better. hth.

Thanks, I did a search trying to find a thread and came up empty. Then I went back several pages but did not see this one. I figured there was one. Sorry to be redundant.

First $529 is a good price for the .45 in M&P, second both are good guns. For me, I'd opt for the M&P only because I don't want 1 gun (a glock 21) with a different grip angle from the rest. You can't go wrong with a glock or M&P of any size caliber (except the .45GAP Glocks, 10mm or .357 sig, which are wildcat rounds, expensive and hard to find).

Most of us on here have chosen the M&P as our platform of choice, so keep that in mind, likewise you'll get a very bias opinion on Glocktalk as well. If I was to only own 1 gun and it was a full size .45 I'd probably take the G21Gen4 simple for the +3 capacity (and I shot my buddy's very well).

The only S&W semi auto that I have owned was a stainless .45 acp (645?). It was well made, and I never had a malfunction with it. I have owned 5 GLOCKS: 2-19s, 23-GEN4, 23-C, & 22. I wish that I could afford to buy a M&P just to have one. I don't know if it is apples & apples, but I liked everything about the GLOCKS when compared to the 645, but again, it would probably a different story with an M&P. Not the results, but a better comparison. My 2 cents worth. If offered my choice, I'd take the GLOCK. I don't capitalize the GLOCK name as a shout, that is just how they print their name. DLB

The G21 is a polymer boat anchor, it's too big for anything other than open carry and only those with the biggest hands can comfortably hold it. I have big hands and it's a bit thick for me. Other than that...I've used my FIL's MP45 and I LIKED it.

I have owned both (M&P 45 and Glock 21) and hands down for me, it's the M&P. I have small hands, and all the M&P models are MUCH more comfortable than any Glock, other than the Glock 36. (I have owned several Glocks: 19, 26, 23, 21, 30SF, and 36.) The M&P 45c is a great gun as well, in a smaller package.

I have the M&P 9 and 22. I like them both. Highly recommend. Was debating myself between the $529 45 and a $800+ 1911. Leaning towards the M&P. How do you like the SD9VE? Giving it some thought too. For $319 @ Academy seems like a good deal.

"the one that fits your hand the best." I have both and like both but carry the 21 on duty. Gen 4's have the changeable back strap and the 36/30/30S are GTG for CCW.
But if the M&P feels "right" in your hand, buy and enjoy it. You can't go wrong with either. (BTW, my son has gorilla hands and prefers the M&P grip angle.)

I've had both a regular 21 and one of the first 21SFs. I liked the grip on the 21SF, but it still a big package. Magazines seem especially huge when trying to carry one concealed. Both of my 21s were very accurate. I have carried an M&P 45 full size since 09, and like it much better than the G21s, however. As everyone else has said, ergonomics, if not better, cover a wider spectrum than the 21s. Recoil was about the same. In a good quality, custom leather holster, an M&P 45 is very concealable. I won't currently give either an edge in reliability because both companies have been cranking out guns on occasion faster than their quality control can keep up. Both will fix them if they don't work, however.

I know, I am considering the 1911 as well. I need to shoot them all. I like the way the SD9VE feels, and that is one reason I bought it. The trigger has been a challenge, but I am getting there, and without buying a kit so far. If it had not been for me joining this forum, I would have given up on it already. I am glad I did not. I paid $324 for mine, so for the gun you get for around $300, I don't think you can beat it. Oh, and don't forget the two mags. That makes up for no plastic box and then some imo.

The way a gun feels in the grip really is subjective, isn't it? I have big hands, but short fingers, if that makes sense. Where my finger ends up in relation the pulling the trigger is a big thing for me, so that is why I need to shoot them both.

Recoil will be something new to me since I have never shot a .45. I thought the same thing about reliability, you can't go wrong with either.

I had not thought about the M&P 45c, mainly I guess because my LGS has never had one when I was there. Now you have given me another option to consider. :)

I find the .45 to have relatively tame recoil. My .40 cal Glock was snappier. The M&P45 is similar to 9mm's I have shot before.
