Anyone know if the Vortex Razor Red Dot fits on the CORE with any of the included mounting plates? Does it co-witness with the iron sites?

Been looking since I posted....Jerry M with S&W uses the Vortex Razor...are you sure it doesn't fit or did he have a smith do his special?

Looking in my manual, there are zero instructions for how to install a Vortex Razor. There are 5 plates & 6 MRDS's listed that are compatible and the Vortex Razor is not one of them. Perhaps it will work with one of the plates, but apparently S&W doesn't make that known...

your thinking on the base plates and it not being listed but still fitting sounds pretty good. When I got my Pro CORE 9, the salesman but a Burris on the number 5 plate but he did not screw it down, but the holes did matched up.

I guess it's a possibility, but definitely not listed in the manual from Smith. If it is compatible, you'd think they'd advertise it as such...

Just curious as to why you'd want the more expensive Vortex Razor over the Trijicon RMR?

Especially considering it may not fit and/or co-witness. Is the Razor superior in some way or do you just own one already and this keeps you from having to purchase a new sight for your CORE?

I actually use the Leupold Deltapoint, cheapest of all three and it's wonderful!

After doing some in depth checking on the Vortex red dot and S&W core. One has to take the red dot and mill a notch on the rear base of the optic slightly to get it to fit, most people do this their selves or have a smith do it for you. It will not void the warranty of the vortex according to vortex

That's a pretty large sight, I had not heard or seen a Vortex Razor until this thread. I use a Leupold Deltapoint on mine. I put a Truglo dual color, multi reticle on my Ruger 22/45.

I'm using the Vortex, both on a 15-22, and on my ARX160. I like it a lot, and it has a lifetime warranty. How many other optics out there have that little feature?

Not sure if this is an affirmative source, but if you look in the Q&A section on the Vortex website. There are several mentions of the S&W C.O.R.E. being compatible with the Vortex Venom red dot. I just got my C.O.R.E. a few days ago and I am ordering up a Vortex Venom. I'll let ya know how it goes.

First post for me

I just picked up my M&P9 on Saturday. This is my first gun in about 25 years. I am wanting to install the Venom Red Dot also. Please, let us know how it goes once you get yours installed.

Just put the Vortex Venom on my 9mm ported core and works fine, use the #5 plate with the B screws

If you are looking for a drop in fit with the Vortex red dot, buy the mt 5110 mounting plate from Vortex.

I must correct myself again. After contacting Vortex again, I was told that the Vortex Razor is the wrong red dot for the C.O.R.E. equipped pistols. Venom produces a red dot for the C.O.R.E. pistols, it's just not the Razor. I apologize for my inaccurate statement above.

i'm going to correct my statement above I ended up sent the
venom back because the co-witness was so tight I would not be able to see it without looking hard and that might have been to late in a bad situation, at first I thought it looked ok until I used a couple of my friends with different sight and seen that mind really did not co-witness well

I did ALOT of research on this a year ago. Go with an RMR or Deltapoint!!

The delta point (original) is not available any more...well there may have been one on amazon that was $799....(ouch!) The delta point "pro" is what's available now. I called Delta point and talked to the rep and he is not recommending the "pro" at this time for the c.o.r.e. due to mounting issues. He did state they were working on a mount for the CORE with no ETA.
