Hi all, My new M&P9C is my first handgun and I love it. I've got somewhere around 400-500 rounds through it so far and hasn't misfired or anything yet. My problem is this, after joining a local sportsmen's club, I participated in a center fire match and another shooter was using a M&P9 fullsize. He mentioned how he had to switch the mag release to the other side because his hands were not matched up with the size of the weapon and it made it easier/faster to release the mags this way. I wanted to try this as well since I too seem to be having to loose my grip to hit the button with my righthand thumb. After moving the ambidextrous mag release button around to the other side I'm finding that my magazine follower inside the magazines are catching on the mag release arm inside the grip and stops feeding the rounds up once it binds. Has anyone else seen this? I am thinking of contacting Smith n Wesson first to see what they say otherwise I might be tempted to grind a little off the metal tab of the mag release arm. Your thoughts????

switch it back. You're not shooting Matches every day.

I have already switched it back only because it doesn't work on the right side. I want to try and get used to it being on the right side for ergonomics.

To avoid further issues, practice with it on the normal left side of the pistol. The more you train with it, the better you will get.

I'm left-handed and have switched the mag release of my M&P9C to the other side. When I did this, I had the same problem you are having now. All you have to do is use a nail file, or some sand paper and gently sand the sharp corners of the magazine follower (disassemble the mag first). Let the follower stick once and it will be easy to see where the sanding needs to happen. It is easy to duplicate the issue by manually releasing bullets from the magazine while it is out of the gun. Both magazines were sticking and both have been flawless since I did this to mine.

Thanks Linejudgemick, I was thinking I'd have to do something like that but I want to give S&W a chance to respond to my inquiry before I do so. I also found another thread that had this video about modifying the follower to help ease the loading of the 10th round into the magazine issues. Just want to share it just in case anyone wants to try it. M&P mgazine follower modification - YouTube

If your thumb doesn't line up properly with the magazine release, try a different backstrap. I had the same problem, until doing so.

You're welcome. I was the same way... after corresponding with C.S. and being reassured I would not void my warranty, I sanded them. I liked that idea better than sending my entire pistol back for warranty work - although S&W was willing to issue me a shipping label to do that. Good luck with yours.
