Mags won't drop when release button is reversed

I have a new Shield Plus and swapped the mag release button to the other side, since I'm left handed. I've done this on my other 2.0 models and never had a problem. After swapping it over, the mags won't drop. It's stuck and I have to pull the mag out by hand.

The other thing I noticed, is when the mag is still in and I lock the slide back, then go to bring the slide forward by pulling back on the slide and pushing the slide stop down, it won't go forward and is stuck.

When I swap the mag release button back to a right handed configuration, the mags fly out and the above test with locking the slide and bringing it forward, works fine.

Any ideas on what could cause this strange behavior with simply swapping the mag release button to a left handed configuration? I'm stumped.

I have swapped over a couple of full sized M&Ps without a problem. Only thing I could suggest is trying it again and paying close attention to the process.

Thing is, I've done that multiple times, it simply doesn't work in a left handed configuration. I know how to do it, as I've done it on other 2.0 pistols I have. Just don't understand what's causing it to fail on this Shield Plus... it's really weird.

At this point, I'm thinking it's an issue with the button itself. I've even taken it apart by removing the mechanism and spring and then re-assembling to make sure it's seated correctly. Still only works in a right handed configuration. Guess I'll call S&W tomorrow and see if I can get a new release button assembly.

I assume you have tried with more than one mag? If so sounds like the release button itself. Give Smith a call, and they should send you a new one.

Yes, I've tried multiple mags... same result.

I really didn't mean make it sound like I thought you didn't know what you were doing, I was thinking pay close attention and see if you could see what the hangup was.
After doing it multiple times and trying different magazines with no better results, I would say a return to the factory is in order. Good luck.
