Default What spare M&P45 parts would you get.

I finally found a place on the net selling most all the components for the M&P45, everyone had the 9mm and .40S&W parts but the .45 parts were a search. then I stumbled across Speed Shooter Specialties. I ordered a spare trigger bar assembly and sear block assembly, and got them in two days. Are there any other parts you guys recommend I have on hand. I shoot the pistol quite a bit and though have had zero issues with parts breakage or even malfunctions, luck favors the prepared.

I would think a spare recoil spring assembly would be good to have on hand. Isn't it supposed to be replaced every 5,000? rounds? (Someone will confirm or supply the right number of rounds....). They run around $10.

I bought an "extra power" striker spring and recoil spring assembly when I bought my magazine base plates just to make shipping worth it... They do very good shipping small stuff compared to brownells and midway though... Usually under $4 for small parts and shipped very quickly.

Doh!

Springs, I don't know why I did not see that, it's so obvious. Yes I will be ordering every spring for it I can get my grubby little paws on.

The only spare parts I expect to need are the springs that they recommend for replacement either every 5 years or every 5K rounds, which are the recoil spring assembly, mag springs, striker & trigger spring.

Of course, I updated my own M&P 45 with the revised striker assembly & sear housing block assembly when they became available (because I'm an armorer and was bored with my M&P 45).

I've had to replace a couple coil pins in different guns that were just a bit undersize (started walking a little).

I have a lot of other M&P spare parts which just sit in my M&P parts drawers. Maybe I'll need them someday. I've only fired a few thousand rounds through each of my own M&P's.

If you have the original safety plunger spring plate (separate plate which captures the plunger spring underneath the rear sight base ... and which is called the UFO in the armorer class), you might pick up an extra one. Better yet, get one of the new "assemblies", in which the plunger spring is attached to the spring plate.

Maybe a spare slide stop lever assembly, sometime. The slide stop lever assembly has been revised and is being standardized, with the new one going into the new production guns having a heavier (yellow) wire spring, as well as an angled corner on the inside of the right hand lever tab (helps add some "reset" tension against the trigger bar tail). The former one had a light blue wire spring. I put one in my 40c but haven't yet bothered to get one for my own FS45. Maybe later. I still have a couple of the older spare slide stops for spares.

FWIW, the current mag springs for the 10-rd M&P 45 mags are painted light blue, and use new followers. So, the next time you order new mag springs, if they're for a mag that has the older orange, purple or green painted springs, ask for the newest follower revision that needs to be used with the Lt. Blue spring.

IF YOU EVER REMOVE THE LOCKING BLOCK ... you might find yourself needing a spare takedown lever wire spring. A little dab of grease in the LB's spring groove helps keep the itty bitty wire spring from falling out when the LB is out of the frame.

Based on my personal experience, the striker is the only thing that just flat broke (at 7500 rounds) at a time when the factory was back ordered. A spare striker and probably a trigger spring. Maybe a recoil spring assembly and mag springs as I had one fail on a six month old magazine that was tested one time, then loaded and carried. I also lean toward sending the pistol back to the factory under warranty every 5K rounds for inspection where they will replace springs and replace or upgrade what is required

I always buy my spare parts from SSS. For any M&P, I would say a recoil assembly and a striker assembly would be the first two I would buy for those JIC moments.

Fastbolt: The new individually packed 10rd mags I bought have a black painted spring, but the 2 that came with my FS45 where light blue.

It probably doesn't hurt to have a spare extractor on hand.

I thought the black painted springs were for the compact 8-rd mags, but I haven't checked any of those lately. I might've missed a transition spring color in between ordering batches of spare springs for my assorted 3rd gen and M&P's.

I have orange, purple, green and now Lt blue, myself. I stopped using the orange ones when the purple ones came out, after one of my orange ones took on a weird bend (but was still functioning normally inside the mag tube, oddly enough), but still have some unused spare ones of both orange & purple. I probably won't get around to replacing any of the purple or green springs in my own mags until they start to get more worn (or one exhibits a problem).

Here is one of the 7 individually packaged mags I bought.

Thanks. I believed you, I just never got around to getting any of those.

That follower is the earlier revision, though, and isn't what's used with the latest Lt blue spring. I'm traveling and don't have any M&P 45 mags or pictures, but the obvious difference on the new follower is that the "post" which sits inside the top spring coil is shorter and flat on the bottom.

I figured you did, I was just showing what it looked like. The follower is of the older type, but the black painted springs are stronger than the blue type with new followers that came with the gun. I'm not sure why they're doing it that way or what company even makes the 45 magazine, but mine seem to function just fine and 4 of them have been used and stay constantly loaded.

ETA: What was the reason for the flatter bottom followers anyways? The type I have pictured dosn't seem to bottom out fully loaded and I could always shave away the bottom of it to mimic the new type.
