I am curious, since S&W named the pistol the " Military and Police" are there any military units or personnel using the pistol either unofficially or officially?
We know several armies have adopted the Glock and Delta Force uses the Glock. It would seem the M&P would by now gaining some acceptance as military hardware.
So anyone know of any armies or army units that have either tested it or started using it officially or unofficially?

None that I know of in the US Military. Special Operations units can get weaponry that isn't normally issued to regular forces so I wouldn't be surprised if some troopers were carrying M&P. My son who was an Army Ranger carried 75th Ranger Regiment issue guns but he told me some of his buddies had 1911 .45 ACPs & a few had Sigs. He knew of a Sgt Maj who was planning on getting an M&P 45 if he could get the funding. Whether he ever did is unknown. Many SEALs carry Sigs but I'm not sure if that's the standard for them or if they have the flexibility that we had when I was with them before I went in the Army.

Thanks. The Sig is standard with the Seals as is one of the HK's in 45acp. However, most spec ops can carry pretty much anything they want. I know one Seal who carried the Sig in country and the 1911 out of country. My SF buddy carried the Hi Power in Nam. Smuggled it in though.
Be interesting to see if anyone does decide to carry the M&P.

I read somewhere that it was one of the finalists in the race to replace the M9 that most of us outside of SF carry.

Not as far as I know. USAF uses the M9 except for the AFOSI that use the Sig 228. As noted above there are some SOF units/personnel that carry the Sig 226, some Glocks, and various types of 1911s, most recently the Colt CQB, based on the Rail Gun, that is available for civilians as the Colt Marine Pistol. Pretty cool!

Regarding The Viking's story about a friend who carried a Hi-Power in Vietnam. There was a lot of that. I preferred the 1911 and it used the same .45ACP ammo as my M3A1. Great combo! Plain Ball 9mm isn't especially effective either and any 9mm was very scarce in Vietnam. But one hot setup was the Browning plus the Swedish K. Decent hardware, but like I said, puny ammo.

I have another good friend, who was a flight surgeon for a chopper company ( trauma surgeon). He carried a Swedish K and 6 magazines when he had to fly anywhere. I asked him where he got it; and he said there was a lot to be traded for where he was; and there were a lot of CIA guys running around where he was. The implication was they had Swedish K's and he got a hold of one.
They told my SF buddy to stay at one of the hotels because they did not have room for him on the base. Then they wanted him to turn in his carbine and Hi power. He declined. Amazing they wanted him to stay in a place that crawled with VC at night without arms.
I know a few troops that got called up for Iraq that took 9mm Glocks with them in footlockers that had false bottoms. By the same token one friend of mines son in law, who was a Marine, took a 9mm Sig with him. He was the BN CO's driver, wore the pistol openly, and no one said anything about it. Warriors vs pencil pushers.

According to Larry Vickers, Kyle Lamb and Pat McNamara all retired Delta Members and current tactical trainers.

Delta did experiment with the Glock 22 for a brief period of time. They evaluated the G22 equipped with a RMR type sight for HRT operations such as aircraft takedown etc.

But now Delta aka CAG aka ACE aka WhoTheHellKnows has now transitioned back to 1911's.

The photos of Delta members carrying G19's are guys working with or attached to CIA SOG who do issue G19's.

This info is from Larry Vickers, Kyle Lamb and Pat McNamara you can talk to all of them via M4Carbine.net or directly in one of their training classes.
