Police trade in M&P40 review...
I already have a full size 45, midsize 45, full size 9 and 40.
I was not really interested in picking up another M&P full size, but, thought the deal was too good to pass up.
And I had a spare DCAEK for a full size M&P9/357/40 that I had won in a raffle.
So, I grabbed the last one they had in stock and it was shipped to my FFL.
The pistols come with the magazine disconnect function and are marked "DFV" for the serial numbers. Both on the slide and barrel and frame.
A quick clean up and it shoots dead on.
FYI: These have the larger spring under the sear. I removed the magazine disconnect parts and took up the "slack" with the left over spring. Tip from another board...
Be prepared to clean the slides, as they are filthy.

Officially no but I've never known anyone that S&W asked if they were the original owner.
I have a PD buy-back M&P40 that I bought over a year ago. Great pistol at a great price. The trigger isn't as good as my 40 Compact that was built in the middle of 2013 but still very adequate for SD use.

Any photos, especially of this larger spring under the sear? Where/who did you purchase from? Details are nice to have.
Thanks.

They just recently denied a warranty repair on my police trade in because of it being purchased used.
It may just be who reviews the case, but even after speaking with a supervisor because of some other issues I had they wouldnt do anything for me.

It could just be a newer M&P. S&W did change that spring to a larger size at the factory. I think the change was made in 2012, but don't quote me on that.

I just heard from a source locally that a large number of federally issued guns are soon up for recycling. So I'm assuming there will be a bunch of buy back guns hitting the market in the next 6 months or so. just an FYI if others are interested, may or may not become reality

I've seen a large number of Police recycled S&W M&P .40 on the market lately. Local gun shops and pawn shops also have many used .40 on the shelves. The prices are within 10% of a new .40 ... So I just don't bite. I thought that supply and demand prices would return to the gun market but not yet! Who would buy a used non warranty pistol for the price of a new? Talking with sellers doesn't move the price and they have been sitting for months! I bet sellers will get motivated on the .40 M&P as there are several thousand more used coming to market very soon.

I am not aware of any new M&P coupons as of late. So civilians will need to pony up full price or wait for more tradins.
Asfar as thespring under the sear, it was one with the larger size. And I used it as a way of putting latteral pressure on the pin where the magazine disconnect used to be. Very quick fix and no stupid warning label n the side of the slide!
I did polish the trigger bar and top of it.
And I took the apex parts and polished all the mating surfaces so the trigger breaks very clean and the pull is as good as I can get before going to a lighter weight.
The way the gun worked when I first picked it up, nothing to write home about. Very dirty and stiff.
Now its all cleaned and polished and prepped. Very worth while investment and would easily draw $425 if I sold it now.
I am really enjoing my M&P40 pistols.
