I own four S&W semi-auto pistols and two MP rifles and never had a problem until I got a BG 380 with the laser a little over two years ago. Had to send it back to S&W four times - twice for FTF/FTE's, twice for the laser set screw coming unseated and stopping the slide (even though it was treated with Locktite Blue). Had to check that little screw after every range outing, what a pain.....and yet to no avail. Then the laser died, which was no big deal, as S&W sent me a new one within a few days. Installed it with no problem, now comes the clincher -

Next range trip on the second mag, the action of the slide is aborted by something catching in the slide ......a panel from the laser blew off and got stuck inside. Enough is enough! I had really had it with gun!

Called S&W and told them the story which was undisputed because of documented repeated trips back to CS. Explained to them that I was a long time S&W owner and never had numerous problems like this with any firearm. Went on to tell them that I could never trust this as a self defense carry weapon with a serious design flaw such as a flimsy integrated laser that could put the gun out of commission at any time......AND I want either a full refund or replacement with new MP BG380 - without the damned laser!

My CS rep explained he understood my frustration, but making such a decision was out of his hands, so he said he'd get back to me after letting the "higher-ups'" make that decision. About a week later, he called me with the good news, "We've decided to send you a new MP BG380 to replace your defective one."

It took nine weeks to get to my local dealer, but it finally arrived. First thing I did was clean it up and ran a box of 50 through it with no hiccups, now I'll keep my fingers crossed. I must have a small pocket gun for summer carry, and I really like the ergonomic design and compact dimensions of this mini-gun, despite its mile long double action trigger. It's not my go to carry weapon as my Shield 40 is, but it's nice when it really needs to be hidden. Just keep the *%X# laser!

Kudos to S&W CS for keeping their word and taking care of a long time loyal customer :D

Just got my first replacement laser yesterday, installed and working. original laser lasted a whole 5 weeks and 3 trips to the range. Reliability has been ok except for Tula ammo. First 30 rounds in a box perfect then increasing failures to feed and finally a stuck case that required a cleaning rod to clear. Like the ergos, sights and trigger better than the Ruger LCP, but in 300 rounds I have yet to have a perfect session. All my friends LCP's have run perfect out the box, they like the BG 380 features and feel better but are waiting to see how mine shapes up. My wife also really likes the way it shoots but I don't trust it yet for a concealed carry option for either of us.

I tried a magazine of steel cased Russian 380 in my old BG just once, wouldn't cycle, feeding and ejection problems, never used it again. Even had some sporadic problems with Remington UMC and PMC Bronze where I had to send it back to S&W. Just too finicky for a carry gun that your life depends on. Yet some just love theirs and have had no problems.

I KNOW I got a lemon, just hope the new MP BG is a keeper, gonna keep a close eye on it and spend a bit of time at the range with it before I use it for carry. Otherwise, I'll prolly wind up getting an LCP.

I've got the original BG380 with a laser, never had a problem with mine... under any circumstances, know lots of others with it.. none ever had a probl;em... Now I also have the M&PBG380... it's amzing.. what a great gun.. that's all I can say...

oh ya.... and like all my guns that I may or may not use to carry... I would never consider using any Russian steel cased junk or any other cheap ammo that could inadvertently lead to damaging or cause my gun to fail to function properly....

i traded my Bodyguard for an M&P Bodyguard

i like the new one a lot....a much better fit and finish than the originals. never used the laser, never used the safety either, wish they got rid of that too!

It's funny - when I went to pick up my replacement MP BG my FL dealer greeted me saying "I've got something else for you to consider"........he hands me a new Glock 42 380 and says "Here's the one if your looking for a pocket 380, I'll trade it for your BG and $100!" Took one look at it, it was considerably larger than the BG in each dimension, would have been a real squeeze for a pocket carry, fit and finish didn't excite me at all. Just laughed and said, "Naw I think I'll stick with the S&W......at least I know they'll fix it or replace it without hassle if anything goes wrong with it!"

Glad they helped you out. Mine is less than a week old, the mag won't hold open on last shot (side release is getting stuck on the mag follower) and I have had 2 FTF out of 200 rds of various ammo and one was with my carry ammo Hornady CD. Waiting on the prepaid slip from S&W to send it back...I am deeply disappointed in my BG380 so far...it does shoot very well...

....despite its mile long double action trigger.

Check out galloway precision's trigger kit, along with other goodies for the BG380. You won't regret it, fully adjustable. Works like a dream :p

I have yet to install the firing pin spring, blocker spring, and hardened firing pin (can't find a small enough sight pusher) - but just the adjustable trigger kit makes a HUGE difference over stock.

After my first experience with the original BG w/laser, I'm not going to throw a cent into the new MP BG until I'm positive it's a keeper.

Oh I definitely agree! I just got lucky with mine being a keeper. I've ran close to 500 rnds before I invested on upgrades. No FTE / FTF so far
