Default New member posting here: M&P 40 Tulammo Brass Maxx Ammo Issues...?

Hi there everyone,

Been researching S&W's for a while here, but first time registering and posting.

Took my M&P 40 (full size) to the range yesterday and shot some TulAmmo Brass Maxx. Seems my M&P didn't like it at all.

The first few rounds didn't even hit the paper at about 25 yards. Somehow it adapted (?), and the next 12 rounds did punch paper, but weren't as accurate as the good old Federals.

Like the good gun it is, it still loaded and ejected it all without issue, but the differences were definitely noticeable.

I've shot Blazers, Federal, and Remington all without a hitch. First time I've noticed that my 40 just doesn't like this Italian-made stuff.

The Brass Maxx also visually looks a little narrower compared to the Federals I was shooting and makes a bizarre pinging sound as the bullets head down range.

Bought it at Wal-Mart, pretty cheap.

I've read mixed reviews with other M&P owners across the web with regards to Brass Maxx.

FWIW, my M&P has had about 400 rounds through it (bought it a month and a half ago) and has never had a FTE or failure to eject, not so much as a hitch since I've had it.

Anyone else have issues with this stuff?

Thanks.

Missouri Josh

I've tried it, did't much care for it. I shoot steel targets and have been for about a two years. I have marked distances on the ground on our property. I am consistent with other ammo, but seemed off with the Brass Maxx. I would get rounds that seemed very puny, then a round with some extra zip. No problems with feeding or extracting. I did shoot dirty though. I can buy WWB or the red and black Federal from Wal Mart for the same price.

Welcome to the forum. Never tried it, mainly because of price. Its 20.00 + tax at the local WM, and I can usually get ammo I know my gun likes, delivered for a $16-18 a box, no tax.

Every gun has ammo that it prefers and will shoot more accurately. You can five different brands and your gun will prefer one brand head and shoulders better than the others.

This does not mean that either your gun or the brand of ammo in question are defective.

My experience with Tula Maxx ammo has been very positive. My son and I were shooting and hitting steel targets at 100 yards this past Saturday with Tula Maxx ammo.

Some of it is made by Fiotchi.

My friend's Remington 700 prefers Tula 308. Better results than match ammo

I have run 500 rounds of it in mine without issue, and I especially like the 100pk pricing at Walmart versus Winchester white box.

I have heard many bad stories about bad
experiences with tulammo. I stay away from
from it. There are many other brands to choose
from

i have a 40FS that i use a SL conversion barrel to shoot 9mm.
i've used Brassmaxx 9mm in it and have had a couple of FTF's with it but that's shooting about 400 rds of it.

BrassMaxx is dirtier than some of the other brands and some shots do seem to be 'stronger' than others (powder load inconsistency?), but I haven't had any FTF, FTE issues with it.

Plus... It's usually more expensive than other brands like Federal Maroon box and WWB, so just between being dirtier and more expensive than other brands I like, I don't buy it unless I can't find the others.

I had a handful of FTE/FTF's with it over about 150 rds (with my Shield). Picked up a few of the 100 round cans from Wal- Mart.

I was able to try out Freedom munitions last week...bought 350 rounds of mostly 124 gr (new), and some 115 gr (new). I had zero issues with shooting around 250 rounds through my Shield and M&P 9 Full size (both gun fairly new). I really love the 124 gr for both guns. Not as "snappy" as the 115, and accurate as hell.

The only thing that sucks is that Freedom does take about a week for shipping because I'm on the east coast (mine shipped from Washington State). I'll just have to plan ahead and stock up. Not trying to sound like an advertisement for Freedom, but it's clean, cheap, and fired consistently for me. I haven't tried their remans, but I probably will. I have 500 more 124's on order, which shipped out within 2 days.

Would I buy the Tula Brass Maxx again? In a pinch...yes, but I'd probably go for Blazer or something else. Both of my guns are new, and had under 50 rounds of blazer through them when I fired the Tula, so maybe that had something to do with it. Could have been that I needed to polish the feed ramp. I simply cleaned and oiled it fresh out of the box.

All online orders ship from WA State. Their stores are simply On-Site purchases and they suggest calling them to see if they have what you want before stopping by.

I've shot both New and Reman (both 115 & 124) through my Shield without issue. FM has become my favorite brand online and I do try to order a few weeks before I might run low. If I need to by local, I buy Federal.

I wish I had a store nearby that carried FM, but I'll just keep stocking up on it. Each round looks flawless....I've heard the reman looks pretty much the same. Guess I'll try some of that too! By far the best bang for your buck is FM.

As a matter of fact... This Weekend, FM is offering Free Shipping on all orders of $199 or more. I know you'd be trusting the word of some anonymous person on the Interwebz and might not want to sink $200 into a 1st time order with a product you don't know personally, but this would be a perfect time to stock up.

WARNING: Normally, FM only take 2 weeks from order to delivery, but when they run specials, depending on how quickly one jumps on a purchase, delivery time can be delayed (due to everyone jumping on the Free Shipping bandwagon).

I own a lot of guns and am active on several gun forums. On every gun forum for every type of gun imaginable the Tulammo is a frequent source of problems. I would not shoot this junk through my guns for any reason other than the Red Chinese hitting the beaches and Tulammo being the only rounds available.

I've tried a few brands through my FS .40 M&P. I've decided to just run Federal FMJ, can't beat its flawless performance. Yes, cheaper ammo is good for your wallet, but you've spent $500+ on a USA made, high quality firearm, might as well not skimp on the ammo you feed it. Personal Defense ammo, maybe a different story (I use Black Hills 180 GR JHP) Keepin it USA! My two cents....
