Default Shield - Missing Pins

Bought my Shield 6 months ago. Shot about 500 rounds through it. Nice little gun. Start noticing the safety is not about to lock in on position when i pull the trigger and also the slide is a little loose. After further investigate and I realized the pistol is missing two pins. Anyone has this problem? How is this pistol passed the QA?

By the way I emailed the S&W support and they refused to send me the missing pin. Has to do with some legal ****.

Send it back to them. Let them do the work. Since the pins are around the trigger and safety, they wouldn't (according to the manual) be user-serviceable parts. I realized the other day there isn't a parts diagram at all.

Send it in to S&W. It's free. I know it sucks to be without your pistol for a few weeks, but it will be better than having something go really bad and possibly get hurt.

That's pretty amazing! The rear pin holds in the sear housing block. The front pin holds in the locking block. I'm surprised it even fired that many rounds.

Send it back. Maybe you can get a few free mags out of it.

We have seen all kinds of parts missing, extractors, ejectors, sear takedown lever, etc. I am surprised it took so long for the gun to malfunction enough for you to realize those pins were missing. The trigger is still held in by the trigger pin, but nothing is holding the sear assembly in.

I would call S&W again, you will likely get a different rep. Tell them sending the pins out to you would be a lot cheaper than you having to send the gun back to them for warranty service, with them footing the shipping fees. Good luck and advise how you make out.

I'm glad I hit [Refresh] before posting. Mine would have been a duplicate of your reply.

really difficult to picture how this occured, hmm, so did both double roll pins fall out during a shooting session unnoticed? Well anyway all you have to do is call S&W back and they
will send you paperwok to send it to them for repair. Fed X or UPS will come to your address and pick up the package and bring it back when it's done. That's how they did it for me. Best of luck.

Brownell's sells the FS/Compact pins, but not the Shield... odd. I know S&W is tightening up on Shield parts...

Thanks all for your reply.
I've been emailing S&W about this issue. I'm going to try give them a phone call see if they can send me the pins. If not I will send the pistol back.

JAREDSHS:
I took a closer look at the hole where the pin suppose to go. I suspect there were never a roll pin there. I've work on my other pistol before it is almost impossible for roll pin to fell out.

I consider myself lucky. I'm been reloading in the past 3 years. I've cheap out on the gun powder. All my load it are in the weaker side. Glad didn't load any +P load for the shield, don't know what will happen with +P load.
I will keep your guys posted after the phone call tomorrow. Thanks!

Got off the phone with S&W. I wish I call them directly in the beginning instead of email for support. They said they never had a shield manufactured in March 2014 with missing roll pins and he is surprised nothing happened in that 500 rounds I shot. They are sending me the roll pins :-)

I've never had any satisfaction using the email system at S&W (I think it goes to a computer that sends back canned answers, IE "Reply with your email and we will send a return authorization." My question was, "I sent you an email, so why are you asking for an email address?". Now I call them every time and have never had anything but great customer service, the only downside is the 10-40 minute wait, but I put it on speaker and do other things.

I'm shocked it cycled wither the pins were missing from the start or fell out. I would have thought that would have ended in a horrible malfunction.

The front pin on my Shield 40 came out after a couple hundred rounds. I called and S&W sent me a couple new pins.

The front trigger pin held the locking block and trigger in place. The sear block fits tight in the frame, and the pin basically keeps it from lifting up. When the slide recoils back and stops, it puts pressure downward, but the rear of the slide would want to lift when the slide closes. However the rear pin centers and holds the manual safety. I am surprised that the safety functioned at all, without that pin installed.

I just ordered 6 spare pins from Brownell's lol. Not that I'm missing any, just seems like a good spare part to have...
