I bought my M&P 9c about 6 weeks ago. I am new to S&W and semi-autos and saw several comments on the "H" model being improved. How do I know if I have the "H" model?

It is not a different model. At some point in time they changed the trigger bar, & the new one has a "H" marked on it to identify it as the newer bar. There is no way to know if a gun you are about to buy has the "H" bar or not because when they build these guns, they use whatever bar they have, & they are not going to throw out the older bars. And considering the thread about stripping guns at the LGS before paying for them, I don't think that will happen. So once you do buy the gun you are looking for, remove the slide, & look at the trigger bar, & see if it has the "H" marked on it. GARY

Ima..., lock the slide open and look down thru the ejection port to the right front corner of the top of the mag well. You will see a silver colored metal bar that runs along the upper right side of the mag well. That is the trigger bar. Using a flash light, look at the inside front corner of the trigger bar just as it comes from the back of the trigger and bends toward the mag well. In the inside corner of the trigger bar, you will see a small stamped letter. If it is a "H", you should, by most accounts, have an newer "H" series gun. Like N4KEV says, it's not a new model, it just has the newer upgrade parts. This should include a new style slide stop bar, a new style sear, and the faster twist barrel, if it's a 9mm. Also if you will look at the date "code" on the end of the box, or the evidence cartridge case fired date, they will tell you when the pistol was built. I just purchased a lightly used 9c dated august 2013. It has all the upgrade parts in it. The "H" series trigger components make a big difference in trigger feel on the M&P's. I like a bunch!
My 9c has the H stamp on the trigger bar with a date of 5-14-2013 on the fired bullet envelope and I don't remember exactly when I bought it but have had it over a year. The more I shoot it the better I like it.

Yepper, the "H" series M&P's are very nice. Good all around platform to begin w/ and w/ the "H" improvements, much better.

Can someone order a "H" bar & install it in a 2009 M&P40c & notice an improvement?
Unless you have the new sear housing block with the new sear, wouldn't recommend it.
The new trigger bar came about to work with the new sear geomitries and sear housing block. The sear engagement loop on the H bar is higher compared to the S bar.
Putting it in an old gun may, probably will, have problems.
As far as triggers go, I notice a lot less flex in my "S" stamped trigger bar on my full size 9, compared to my newer "H" trigger bar on my compact. Was miscontruing it for trigger creep, but it's actually the trigger bar flexing before the sear breaks.

Hmm! Might dang well be! Could easily stand for Improved. Way to tell(perhaps!) would be compare the orientation of the "S" (Standard?) trigger bar. If the "S" is on it's side, then it may well be an "I".

Early trigger bars were not marked at all, IIRC. Now, "S" and "H" marked trigger bars, I believe.

Well, If I can get my head out of my *ss, I might have looked at the MSW picture member PRASKO posted. Upon close examination of the 2 trigger bars in the picture, is does show the "H" stamp to be oriented the same as the "S" stamp. So I do believe we can safely call it the "H" trigger bar. I still have no idea what the "H" might stand for. Any thoughts, anyone?
It's just a revisional mark I believe.
The bars, as far as I can tell, are identical except for the sear engagement loop.
Some people believe you need the new bar to get a better reset if you get the new slide stop. That is incorrect. I have the new slide stop and an "S" bar, and my reset is the same as my compact, which has the "H" bar.
The main updates were the sear housing block. The new ones cannot accept the RAM, but the new ones have the performance center sear dimensions.
The only reason I would see needing a new trigger bar, were if you updated to the new sear.
