S&W 669 9mm

Well at a pawn shop they have a pretty good condition S&W 669 9mm. He offered $400 OTD.. but I'm rather broke now... oh well..

Say how accurate was these guns? I have the 3913, 3914, and a 6906 but not the earlier 669.

I presume it uses the same mags as the 6906.

I have a 469, apparently never issued surplus for the Illinois State Police which I have had for years. I have found it to be a fine weapon.

My 669 came with the appropriate 2nd gen magazines but your 3rd gen 6906 mags work just fine. That's a really decent price and it would be a nice introduction to 2nd gen guns. You'll likely prefer the grip and sights of the 6906 but a lot can be said about that "old school cool" factor of the 669.
Mine had been machined for Novak night sights and likes the 59 series magazines with the PGS adapter.

Accuracy will vary from one firearm to the next, but the 469/669 introduced the fixed barrel bushing in S&W pistols. As such, they tended to be more accurate than many of the 39/x39 and 59/x59 pistols with the removable barrel bushing. I would expect the average 469 or 669 to be as accurate as the average 6904 or 6906.

My 669 is my CC gun in summer, and a 915 in winter. Fine weapons and certainly more accurate that I am. ULTIMATELY dependable. That's what is important to me. Never had a failure (knocking on wood desk)!

469/669 are great guns and shoot every bit as well and accurately as your 6906. The sights on the 469/669 are the short fall.

The front sight is integral to the slide, and the rear sight is not cut for Novak sights. They are still great guns, but that price seems kind of high. The second gen mini's usually come in cheaper than third gen's because of the sights.. that said, there are still some good deals to be had..

I have 2 669's , they are great guns , accurate . One of mine I shipped off to Guzzitaco and he worked his magic on it . I ended up having him put an Sig Romeo on it , makes it a fun plinker . I put a 20rd 5900 mag in it and go to town .

My 669 had accuracy issues, after 2 magazines the holes started to cloverleaf instead of the same hole like the first and second magazine.......

that very picture has had me on the hunt for a square-guard 6906 slide for some time now!

I bought one when they first came out and still have it in my safe. It was billed at that time as "A Minigun".
One thing the magazine testers wrote was that it could manually cycle empty shells to show its reliability to feed anything.
I tried it and it worked.
I really liked that gun and will never sell it. But smaller and lighter guns came along.

I believe that it was a 39 that I bought, when it first came out. Gorgeous bluing and it didn't malfunction, but I couldn't hardly hit anything I shot at with it. COULD have been me, or I just could have got a dog

If the OP's photo is the actual gun in the shop, that should have gone home at $400. Perhaps it could be negotiated down a little in the pawn shop. $400 is a great amount. I carry a 469 every day and it's a great gun.

I have a 669, 3913, 6906. All exc+. Purchase is fast, 3913 fastest, like p225, double stack is a might slower, as usual. All are very accurate, parts abound (except frames). Alloy is 6075, so type 3 anodizing will be champagne colored, but HARD. (my refreshed 3913 is shown). 6906 color is OEM for comparison (type 2 anodizing). Each of these has 3000 rounds through them each. These are training guns, hence colored nomenclature for students to see.

I love 3rd Gen S&W hand guns. Always wanted a 2nd Gen probably a 669 but as for now not yet. Here's my 908s, 910s (S&W value line of the 3913 & 5906) 4006, 4516, and early year model 1911. Love and shoot all of them and will never part with them. Each one is extremely reliable, never once a fail to feed, fail to fire, not one hiccup ever.

Have had mine since late 80's. Was my off duty for a lot of years. Great pistol. Always cycled fine with everything I put thru it, and very accurate. Sights are ehhh…. Grip is blocky and trigger not so great. Love the pistol and shoot it often.
My youngest Daughter has "Dibbs" on it.

Was that 469 inaccurate or was it the grip size/shape and maybe the sights that made it inaccurate in your hands?

I use my 669 as CC in the summer but I have to say that I fitted a conventional hammer to it. Can't stand that bobbed hammer.

A word on 9mm accuracy. Slug your barrel. I had a Model 39 that slugged 0.352. I've seen other 9mm barrels go all the way to 0.359 and wondered why I couldn't hit the proverbial broad side of a barn.

I never got a chance to bench it, but it clearly was a bad fit for my hands. The sights were easy to pick up. I shot pie plate groups in close and patterns at 25. There were no aftermarket grips out yet. I decided it didn't conceal any better than the 39 and the extra 4 rounds didn't outweigh my lack of confidence in something on which I was betting my life. I sold it to a coworker who proceeded to prove he could hit a 4 drawer file cabinet at 3 feet. For him, that was good shooting.

I had one years ago that I should have kept. It never had a failure in all the rounds I put through it, didn't matter what the ammo was handloads, cheap ammo, expensive ammo, and any bullet weight. It just shot it all. Traded it for a stainless Mini-14 probably 35 years or so ago.
