Default Loose Ejector on new Compact 22

Picked this up brand new yesterday and in cleaning it, noticed the ejector is loose. Is this normal?

Default Loose Ejector

I just checked mine after I saw your post, and I think you can rest easy 'cuz mine is a bit loose also. I've had mine about a month and it functions perfectly with everything I run thru it! standard velocity, high, It doesn't care. Still waiting for my free ammo though.

Thanks very much. I won't be able to take it out shooting until next weekend so your info is very reassuring.

My ejector is loose also. However, I am having some failure to eject issues regardless of which magazine (I have 6 of them) and of what ammo. I've used CCI, Blazer, Aquila, Remington, Federal Bulk and Auto match...still; getting the odd FTE where the empty case is stuck horizontally at the top of the slide opening. What the heck? My first thought after deciding it isn't ammo or mag related is that loose ejector. Any ideas out there to help me resolve the FTE issue?

Mine has a bit of movement, but I don't call it loose. Pretty much the same through over 2k rounds.

druryj,
Be sure it is clean under the extractor claw. Beyond that, I see the problem most often with Federal Lightning. I suspect that the rims are slightly thinner than others. I've stopped buying Federal in any pack.

It's a blowback pistol; there is no extractor claw on this model. I wish though, that would have been the likely culprit.

If there is no extractor, you have serious problems, and a badly broken pistol.

Look on page 13 of your user manual. In the inset pictures to your left of the firing pin that the discussion is dedicated to, you will see an L shaped piece of white metal. That is the extractor.

Then how do you extract unfired rounds? There have been blowbacks without extractors, like the little Beretta and Taurus pistols with tip-up barrels, but the M&P22 isn't one of them. If yours has no extractor, it's broke.

Yep, you guys are right! I checked the pic on page 13 as suggested in post# 9 above. The whole darn extractor is missing; initially, I saw no extractor and that led me to believe it was like the Beretta ... guess it's time to ship it back to S&W. Funny thing is, the gun DOES extract and eject MOST of the time, like the Beretta, even with the missing extractor. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. If S&W would provide a parts diagram (exploded view) I could probably pop one in but as it is, I think I'll just send it back to them.

They are not big on selling parts, so a trip back is your one alternative. But the customer service folks are easy to work with.

And I called customer service, got an RMA and FedEx label, and it's on its way back to S&W now.

Dude no reason to feel stupid, technically you were correct. There was no extractor. Just on your pistol though

Thanks, I feel a little less dumb now. I got the pistol back today from S&W; complete with new extractor! That was a pretty quick turn around. Now, let me see if I can manage to shoot the thing and maybe not break it.
