Default Slide Porting on a M&P Shield?

Has anyone with a shield done this on a Shield? I'm looking for some pics to get an idea of how it would look since the space available for porting on the slide is limited. I've searched Google, but haven't found much. Here is a pic of what I'm thinking about doing.

Welcome to the Forum!
Porting just the slide would only lighten the weight of the pistol, which could effect recoil control, especially since the 'lightening' would be at the front of the pistol, which could accentuate muzzle flip.

Most Shield owners use them for Self Defense and don't port them. You can probably google 'porting self defense pistol' and find the reasoning.

For those that do port their pistols, MagnaPort seems to get a great deal of business.

Porting would be done to the slide only. Not the barrel. Also, this is not my carry weapon. I'm just trying to see what others with a Shield have done and how it looks.

Considering how thin a shield slide is, would you really want to push that envelope?

would only imagine bad things happening.

Plan on shooting loads so you batter the pistol . If you want it , do it . People tend to buy them for CC not as play toys soooo mess it up , its yours .

Personaly , I would do any of that to mine if it was free !

I've been reading stuff about the Shield since May 2014. On this forum, and others. I think that this is the first I've read of someone writing about doing this with a Shield. I don't recall ever reading comments from anyone who has done this.

I would caution you to ask yourself, why do I want this done and what do I expect the results to be? Then ask the forum if those results have been achieved.

Good luck with your endeavor.

Slide cuts to cut weight are usually seen on comped guns to increase slide velocity, as the comp would take out some of the recoil impulse. S&W M&P series uses the slide weight to control recoil and the 40 slide is slightly heavier than a 9 so they can use the same recoil springs. Yes it does look neat, but you change the way the gun was designed to function. The smaller/more powerful the gun the narrower the operation range and the more slight changes can effect reliability.
