Hello everyone, I am interested in buying a .22 compact pistol. The choices are Walther P22, Ruger SR22 and M&P 22. I already own a S&W Shield and I never had an issue with it but this is a different gun altogether (from what I heard). I read good and bad for SR22 and P22, like feeding issues, ejection, stove piping. Some say P22 has these issues because of bad ammo. It only likes high velocity ammo, which are expensive and hard to find. Some even on Walther forums have suggested a SW 22. So here I am.

How good is M&P 22? Any issues with subsonic or regular cheap ammo? The price that I can buy it now is at $299, is that good?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Excellent pistol, own one and going to buy another.

Bad points... so far sights not upgradeable but stock sights adjustable for both elevation and windage.

Have seen some youtube vids where winchester white box won't blow the slide back far enough but do you really want to run crud ammo through any gun? I blame the shells and not the gun.

Buy it!

What about the price, is $299 a decent price? I heard people spend $250 for it ....

Once in awhile PSA runs a special on them for $250.00 but that hasn't happened in quite a few months. The best price I have found other then PSA is on Gunbuyer.com. They them for $279.00 plus free shipping. You save on the taxes but you still need an FFL for the transfer.

Mine will be at the FFL tomorrow, thanks to you I got the deal, bought 3 extra mags and 6 bricks of ammo. I really don't know if I should thank you or cuss you out for making me spend $600.00 bucks I did not have  LOL

I see, thanks for the reply. Do you like the M&P 22?

Do you have the MP22 full or compact?

Compact. Love it.

Do you run sub-sonic ammo through it? If yes, what are the results? Good/Bad? Also, do you run regular ammo through it? Which brands and where do you buy them that's cheap?

Thanks

Had my M&P22 about a year now; can recommend it. If you are just plinking tin cans and such just about any ammo will do (have not tried sub-sonic tho). However, I shoot bowling pin tops and champagne corks at 25' and have found the Winchester M22 40g and CCI mini-mag 40g the most accurate so far. However, each gun can vary as to what it shoots best. Tried 32 and 36g and found the 40g most accurate in mine.

I purchased one on 3/27 for $219. I haven't gotten out to shoot it yet. This is a replacement for, and hopefully upgrade from, a Ruger SR22.

The Ruger would FTE with the slightest bit of limp wristing. The 22 semi auto is primarily for the kids, so this was a bad thing. It would run fine until their hands got a little tired...

My 22 Compact runs great on CCI SV, Rem Golden Bullet, and Thunderbolts (but for those be ready for a serious cleaning). I would not suggest Remington Sub-sonic, but one day it was what I had. 15 of 100 failed to cycle, but that was better than I expected.

It does not like Federal Lightning or American Eagle. At all.

Mine hasn't arrived yet. I ordered it the same time as allthumbs did but my regular FFL I use was away so I should be getting it on Friday.

$219.00 is the best price I have ever heard  Was it new??

I've had mine (22c) since late Sep '14, and it has fast become one of my favorite pistols. Light, accurate, and, for me, 100% reliable so far, both suppressed and unsuppressed. It's a great suppressor host, partially because the short barrel keeps even bulk-pak ammo subsonic, and partially because the action is just quiet. I've shot a lot of AE, AE suppressor, Federal Automatch, Federal bulk pak (maroon box and blue box), and CCI MiniMags.

Like JAMMAN, I'm waiting for replacement sights, as I like fiber optic front sights. I'm sure they'll come soon. Don't get burned like I did--standard M&P22 sights do not fit.

I got mine from PSA for $249, but you can't go by that price. PSA occasionally runs sales that are just stupid cheap...way off the curve. If I could find another one for anywhere under $300 I'll probably pick up another one.

I have a holster for mine made by a member here. Fit is perfect.

Great gun for teaching beginners, too. No strange "down is on-safe, up is off" stuff of SR22 fame, and a slide rather than a "bolt" like the Ruger Mk's (which I love, also).

Hard to go wrong with this one.

Cheapest I've seen for the compact model around me is $379 (threaded model with adapter!. I could have ordered online but decided to get one locally on an impulse.

So far I really like it. It has fed and fired T-bolts, federal automatch, federal bulk, and blazers without a hitch. Accuracy seems to be very good and the trigger isn't to bad. I definitely like the feel of it better than my wife's sr22. The normal safety orientation is also good and my magazine disconnect safety seemed to have fallen out (wink wink).

So far good responses on the MP22 compact. That's good. I was debating between MP22 Compact and Walther P22. Both are on sale at my local shop. The P22 is for $239 and MP22C is for $299. Anyone here have a MP22 and a P22? If yes, what would you recommend?

P.S. I heard more bad about P22 than MP22C, so far I am leaning towards MP22C.

The M&P Compact is made by S&W, where-as the M&P 22 is made by Umarex(Walther). I personally am not a fan of Umarex guns because of the materials and engineering. But that just me. If you knew the history behind Umarex, you would be surprised.
When I originally looked at a M&P 22, I decided against buying one based on my likes and dislikes on the materials they make the gun out of. My impression of S&W's Compact is much more positive, as I liked the way S&W built it. Much improved over the Umarex gun, IMHO.

I have the M&P 22 Compact, and am very happy with it. There has been one trip back to the homeland, as the takedown lever had gotten chewed up from frequent use. I had 4600 rounds through it at that point. Took about 3 weeks overall.

I just bought the M&P 22 compact yesterday. I already own 2 40 cal. shields. On one shield I have TFO night sights and they are great. On the other I have ameriglo night sights. Love both guns. Anyway I took the compact out today for a test run. No failures what so ever. Gun ran great and was very accurate. For any of you that are searching for holsters for the compact, I found the tagua open top belt slide holster built for the springfield XDS was a perfect fit.
