Round count for edc
I have a shield 9 with 200 flawless rounds through it. I think that proves reliability for edc. Agree or disagree ?

Everyone has different standards but to me 200 is on the low range. I do 500 - 1000. To throughly make sure it works with different loads ans bullet styles

Personally, I'd put another hundred FMJ and at least 50 of whatever carry ammo you choose.
But you have to go with whatever your personal comfort level is.

If that was 200 rounds of my carry ammo, I'd be happy with it. If that was 200 rounds of ball, I'd want to shoot an additional 200 rounds or more of carry ammo.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll just run some more through it to be sure. The 642 wants to go out anyway.

I imagine those round counts were a little more important in the days of "less reliable" autos.
More is better, but with modern pistols, my bet is if it ate the 1st 200, it will eat the next 8 if you need it to.

I have over 7,300 through my normal carry gun without a malfunction. I'm pretty sure it's good to go.
In statistics, the number 30 is enough to give you a statistically significant result. However, this is not as simple as it sounds.
In order for that to work effectively for your gun, it would have to be with the exact rounds you'll use while carrying and be done with each mag. So, if you have two mags, that means it will take at least 60 rounds. And, they must be JHP bullets if that's what you'll be carrying. Doing it with hardball at the range just to save money invalidates the reliability testing if you carry JHPs.
But wait, that's still not statistically significant. Each position in the mag presents different variables; different spring pressures and over all weight. So, if you have 10 round mags, you'd have to fire 300 rounds to get 30 repetitions from each position in the mag. If you have two mags, then it's 600 rounds.
The numbers sure do add up quickly, don't they? If we really want to get serious, it will take even more shooting to test other variables. How is it different when shooting one handed vs two? What about number of rounds between cleaning? What about rain? What about dirt?
In the end it all boils down to what you're comfortable with. If you're happy with 200, I say get on with your life and be happy.
I use a more stringent test. Any gun I'm going to carry has to shoot 500 rounds, no malfunctions and no cleaning. That's good enough for me. I'm pretty sure my regular carry gun meets my criteria.

Heck my friend was happy with 30 rounds of ball through his new non cleaned Shield. Just put it in his Sneaky Pete holster and carrys it every day. Glad I have mine so he don't have to save my life. Oh ya those 30 rounds were 6 inches left and low. Might have something to do with the tea cup grip that he said was proper. He was a RSO in the Navy so says he knows what he is doing. Don

Normally I'd agree with that statement but with companies changing designs every now and then you never know. Just look what happened when Glock redesigned their extractors on 4th gen 9mm guns. Lots of brass to the face and the problem usually surfaced in the 1st thousand rounds. It wasn't always in the first 2 or 3 hundred. Sometimes the problem showed up after a thousand. Now typically if I were buying a new Glock I would already know what to expect and just put, like you said, 1 or 2 hundred just in case.

I have 200 rounds through mine and I feel comfortable carrying it. If I decided to change my carry ammo I would do another 200 just to see if it liked it. My Shield 9 likes Speer Gold Dot 124 grain HP's.

Every new pistol gets shot until I have 200 consecutive flawless rounds of FMJ. If I get a malfunction at (say) round 160, I evaluate what may have caused it (user error, ammo, really the pistol, etc) and start counting (from 1) again.
After 200 flawless FMJ, I start testing the various brands of JHP I like to use, to see which runs the best. For JHP, I buy boxes of 50 and try for at least 30 consecutive flawless shots.
