Just purchased a new M&P Compact 22 for my wife. I have seen pictures of the Compact 22 modified for a 'silencer'/suppressor and that it has a large threaded 'cap' with checkering screwed on the end of the barrel. This 'cap' must be removed to field strip the gun. I also noticed there were two slots for an open end wrench type tool to remove that threaded 'cap'.
On my Compact 22 I noticed it has a small smooth 'cap' on the end of the barrel. This 'cap' has no checkering and appears to be threaded on to the end of the barrel. It also has the two slots on either side for an open end wrench type tool so this 'cap' can be removed? Is this a newer version of the Compact 22 modified for a 'silencer'/suppressor and which the gun can be field stripped without removing this 'cap'? The sales tag next to the gun at the store where I purchased it mentioned 'silencer'/suppressor, but though this might be an error due to no large 'cap' on the end. Also, no mention of a 'silencer'/suppressor in the manual. I did a thorough cleaning when I got it home and I field stripped it easily without removing that 'cap'. Appreciate info on this.

While I have not specifically looked at those models

Many 22s made in the last 4-5-6+ years can accept the adapter to allow a suppressor to be used

Odds are you just need the adapter and your favorite supressor

I own the older .22 compact version, which has a threaded barrel, but with a thread protector that is really tightened down. You'll find a lot of threads here about how hard some of us worked to get it off. You would then mount an adapter (EWK made mine) that provides extension and threads for a suppressor. I have to remove the adapter to field strip it. I tend to put the original cap back on if I don't carry the suppressor.

The "suppressor-ready" version already has an adapter to the common thread layout. I've read in threads here that you do have to remove it to field strip, but I have not seen one past the glass in my LGS.

I have the compact with the threaded barrel. You do need to take off the adapter to remove the barrel from the slide. It is a sweet shooting little gun. Now I just need to get rolling on a Form 4.

I think that for your model you just need to buy the Adapter Kit.

The adapter kit hyper link is one that I put there and goes to the correct product.

S&W lists two M&P22c pistols and the obvious difference is that one comes with a thread adapter and one does not. The 'cap' on your pistol is threaded on and can be removed with a wrench on those flats. Once removed screw a thread adapter onto the barrel and a suppressor onto the thread adapter. The checkering is a separate piece and is just a thread protector.

I have the m&p compact .22 with the threaded barrel also. Like any other m&p, it works as intended. Fun little pistol to shoot and 10x more fun to shoot suppressed.
