Hey everybody, first time poster here.
Lately I've been looking for a new concealed carry personal defense weapon. My glock 19 is a bit uncomfortable to carry with it's glock blockiness and I'm looking for something a bit smaller and more ergonomic. I have handled M&Ps and I love how they feel (never shot one though.) My question here is being that I'm left handed I'm wondering how other left handed shooters like the M&P 9 Shield? Mainly asking because I initially was looking at the Ruger Lc9sPro but I have heard that some lefties were inadvertently hitting the magazine release while firing the weapon. Any odd issues like that with the shield?

From one leftie to another, absolutely no problem(s) whatsoever. My Shield 9 shares off duty concealed carry time with my Kahr PM9.

Not sure but i believe the mag release may be reversible, switching sides if that helps alleviate that concern?

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm thinking I will likely pick this gun up eventually as there don't seem to be any issues for left handers with it.

I am a lefty and I own a Shield. No problem. You cannot shift the mag release button on the Shield. I have no problem with the safety either. So far it has been a terrific weapon.

Welcome to the forum.

When I first got my Shield, I found myself hitting the mag release when drawing it from my holster, but after practicing quick draws at the range, I've learned to avoid it. Muscle memory from practice is key.

Lefty here as well. Because this pistol is so easy to handle I'm working on right handed shooting with it. I'm right eye dominant as well.
Being able to shoot right handed will be important if I ever need to fire while seated in a vehicle, and hopefully that will be never..

With or without thumb safety makes no difference. I'm a lefty and I just leave it off. Makes it exactly the same as the one without a thumb safety.

The one thing I would change is the slide stop. Difficult, but not impossible, to lock the slide back as a lefty. Takes some practice.

Have a Shield no safety. Great carry gun even in the summer.

Welcome!
I have a shield with and external safety (it was only available with it when I got mine). I don't use it. I've got north of 1k rounds with it and have no issues with it. It's not overtly lefty friendly like some guns, but it doesn't penalize you in any way from the other side.

I am a lefty and was disappointed when I upgraded from my g42 to my shield that I could not reverse the mag drop. The good news is that I have never had the first minutes problem with the shield with that issue. I have had accuracy issues though, I, in 7 months, have never been as accurate with the shield as I was and am with my glocks. I am an experienced shooter and it still escapes me as to why. I guess, in the final analysis, I should have just waited until g43's became more available. Live and learn. I will learn the shield one day. Welcome to the forum, lots of nice people here and good info too.

As a lefty I find this strange. I mean, it's the one advantage we lefties have over right hand shooters.

A right hand shooter must alter their grip to get their thumb on the mag catch. Lefties can just use their middle or trigger finger to release the mag without changing the grip.

Even though the full size M&P is reversible, I always keep mine on the left. It's much faster and easier that way.
