Walther PPS M2 vs Shield

I was looking to buy a shield in 9mm without safety had one before with thumb safety but sold it. This past weekend was at the local gun shop and saw the new PPS m2 for slightly more than the shield and had me thinking now I'm considering the new PPS, anyone has any experience with it? how would you compare it with the shield?

I've only spent a couple hours with a PPS M2 but its a top shelf pistol. I prefer the ergonomics of the Shield and I believe the Walther is a bit heavier. I also remember the Walther being very accurate during controlled slow fire.

Advantage for performance sights and holster selection goes to the Shield.

No flies on that Walther though and if it feels better in hand than the Shield I wouldn't hesitate.

I liked the 1st PPS. M2 grip is not for me. Otherwise good guns. I'd probably get the M1 over the Sheild

I'm in middle of this debate right now. Shield vs PPS M2. Will have to put in some more rental time with both this weekend.

As well as ongoing debate between the 9C and Glock 19.

unfortunately the local range doesn't have the pp2 for rent, that would make it super easy for me. I had bunch of glocks tried almost every single one, and they all got replaced with the M&P line, they just fit me better.

I will give my first hand input. I bought one of the first PPS M2's in Arizona because initial gun mag reviews were very good, and I wanted to get something "different".

The original design is great, reliable, accurate, easy to conceal, and once familiar with the mag release its a great value. The M2 design (IMO) one upped the original design. The grip is so much more comfortable than M1 for my medium sized hands its not even funny. The American style mag release is well placed and easy to use in quick reloading situations. Sights are 3 white dot, nothing fancy, and there's an option for better sights. 2 Mags, 1 flush and 1 +1rd with pinky extension.

Accuracy is probably the best I've ever had out of a polymer gun. By a long shot. Trigger and reset is incredible. Try it. Most importantly I've shot the **** out of it. Easily north of a 1000 rounds with ammo varying from garbage to premium and everything in between and it has NEVER had a malfunction. Not one. We ran a whole case of Brown Bear through it in one outing with friends and we had respectable accuracy and no issues.

She cleans up nicely too, and rides in the only 2 holsters I own for any pistol I have. A sticky holster and Aliengear with the PPS M2 shell. I highly recommend this firearm to anyone looking for one of the most concealable, reliable, comfortable carry pistols on the market. For $400, you could do worse. Like buy a Glock...

I owned both, and stopped carrying the Shield in lieu of the M2. The M2 feels better in my hand. You can also get the M2 LE with the 3 mags for the same price as the Shield 2.0 online. Comes with 6, 7, and 8 round mags...

I very much like my PPS M2 - but, just sayin’ - the mags are hard as hell to fully load unless you let them sit fully-loaded for a couple weeks. The phosphorescent (sp?) sights are surprisingly good after a little charge with a flashlight. Last thing - the cocking indicator is a great feature.

Edited to add: I see I paid WAY too much for mine ...

Cabela's had them discounted to $399 (from 499) and I thought I was getting a good deal. Either way - it's a keeper. Ref mag springs - note that the 6-RD uses the same spring as the 8-RD - and thus my comment about the mags being difficult to load. Shoulda specified 6-RD ...

I have several M2 mags, and not one of them are hard to load even by hand. My Shield mags, on the other hand, are hard to load.

I owned both, sold the Walther. I had the PPS M2 LE 9mm. I didn’t care for the phosphorescent sights. For me the gun was most comfortable to carry with the six round magazine, but felt and shot best with the seven round mag. I had no other complaints with the design but didn’t feel it offered me anything I didn’t have with the Shield. I think the decision would go to the pistol that felt best in your hand.

We also own both. Several Shields actually, the PPS M2 LE. The PPS is one of my wife's guns, but I've shot it a fair amount. I was really expecting the trigger to be better, given all the reviews I'd read about it being so great. But to me, the trigger feels no different than our 1.0 PC Shields. They are equally accurate in my hands. I really don't care much for the biggish dot sights, or the phosphorescent paint. But they work okay.

In regards to the PPS M2, I've owned three of them... but ended up getting rid of them all. In my opinion, I think the PPS M2 is the better gun, both ergonomically and in accuracy. The trigger for me was ok, but not outstanding. You're probably asking yourself if that's the case, then why did I ditch them. The answer is, all three I owned suffered barrel peening from the trigger bar slamming into the side of the chamber and causing physical damage. I gave Walther three chances and all three had the same issue. When speaking to Walther, they said it's normal wear and tear and essentially refused to do anything. I strongly disagree, but that's up to you to decide. I'm not saying all PPS M2's suffer this issue and a lot don't, but it's well documented in the threads above. I really want to get another one, but after strike 3 and the poor customer service, I'm out.

Have a pps and shot the shield, personally preferred the pps but the shield is a good gun. I like the striker button at the back on the pps that allows placing thumb on it when reholstering (mostly carry da/sa hammer fired guns). You can get those tau things on Glocks (which is why I am going to try one out) but other than the p99 can’t think of many other strikers that have that little extra layer of safety when reholstering.

If it matters. The M2 for the same physical size holds one less round than the shield. Plus magguts makes +1 and +2 conversion kits to the shield mags to extend capacity even further. Not sure if they make + comversions for the M2.

Again IF capacity matters to you, it may be something to consider.

They make 6, 7, and 8 rounds for the M2. It's comparable in size to the Shield.

Sportsmans Warehouse has the LE edition on sale for $350. I don't need another carry gun but decided to pick one up to compare with my other carry pistols.

I have both the PPS M2 and the Shield. I carry the PPS. Both are excellent guns but I like the feel of the Walther better. I also like the Walther magazines, no floating spacer on the seven and eight round magazines. I find the seven rounder to be the best in terms of shootability combined with concealment.

I actually have three PPS M2s, one for carry, one for practice, and a spare. The most I paid for any of them was $315 and the cheapest was $285, all NIB. I paid $340 for my Shield and thought that was a great deal at the time.

Overall I think both are excellent and if one can be had significantly cheaper than the other go for that one.
