It's taken me half the day to figure out what, "LCI", meant.

I think they're just showing off that the front part of the dust cover has a steel core. Plus it looks "tacticool".

Improved grip stippling.
Eliminated the beavertail.
Improved slide stop.
Improved (PC) trigger--(lighter?) with improved reset--audible & tactile.
Almost forward slide serrations.
5" version available standard, with new tactile Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI ) [Looks like it might interfere with mounting a red dot sight.]
Ambi metal mag release.
Different ejection port machining.
Steel insert in polymer dust cover to stiffen frame.
Lightened slide (narrower front top profile).
4th backstrap choice.
"Windows" in dust cover that are backed internally by the new steel skeleton, so not really windows that would allow **** into gun. Basically cosmetic, perhaps to quickly differentiate V2 visually.
Backwards compatible with mags, holsters, sights.
Different name for the same finish?
Anything else?

Not impressed. They better have some functional purpose in being there 'cause they sure don't add anything to the looks of the gun IMHO (other than just to be new & different). Same with the front slide attempt at a partial fishscale. Doesn't do a thing for me. Looks like a nasty machining screw-up as another member once remarked.
Performance-wise, this better be a big winner because I don't think many are going to buy it just for the cosmetic changes.

I'll trade the frame holes for getting rid of the ridiculously large beavertail of 1.0. Seems like a net upgrade.

Can't really argue with you on that (although I can't say it ever bothered me). As you compare them side by side, that change does appear to be an improvement.
The biggest question for me will be: "What's the Massachusetts-compliant trigger going to be like"? It can't possibly be worse than what we had to put up with on V1.0.

Damn, y'all are a harsh crowd. I personally think it looks sexy! But I'm hesitant to buy one without knowing if it's going to have the accuracy issues in 9mm like a lot of the Gen 1 M&P's do. I'm not about to drop another $200 on a M&P because the barrel lock up sucks.

Does anyone know if the Shield 45 is based on the new M2.0 design? I noticed the stippling and the metal mag release as well as a better trigger feel appear to be features of the Shield 45. I'm not familiar enough with the 1.0 to know.

Point taken. Also keep in mind that I'm not the world's greatest admirer of plastic pistols. That could be tainting my opinion.

This is pretty fun, watching the excitement over these new models. The 2.0's, the .45 Shield. These guns are finding their way into owners hands quickly after breaking cover. Was barely two weeks ago thes 2.0 was little more than a blooper at the Academy sports website. Keep the pics coming guys!

I just bought one, the first to hit a local store. I like it. I've shot the 9C and the Shield (rented at the range) and the trigger on this gun is a bit nicer than those. Especially the reset. The grip is more aggressive but not overly so for me at least. As for the holes, not sure what they are for but they do expose the extended frame. Indecently this is my first hand gun. Was hours away from getting the original 9 when I saw the release on the web. The old version is going away eventually. Range report to come.

Handled one today. I like the grip texture. Others didn't. Trigger has been improved. Feels exactly like a Glock trigger. Nice gun. But I'm not giving up my Glock 19 for one.

Has anyone inspected the inside of the action to see if the trigger spring still depends upon a "tampon"-like filler to keep it from shattering?
I would be curious to see if that part of the original design has been addressed, but I am betting not.
Also, does anyone know why the S&W entry into the MHS got eliminated from the competition?

My 2016 MP9's stock trigger has an audible and tactile reset. Not sure what the deal is there.

I was able to shoot one on Saturday, 9mm 4.25 barrel. Great trigger and shoot a nice small group. Very nice gun to shoot, love the grip.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either, but none of the videos discuss it even remotely. Not even to question why they're there.
Maybe it's a necessary part of the manufacturing process?

It appears (from one photo I saw of the right side) to be a cutout in the plastic to show the serial number (in the long box) and either a logo or some sort of scannable code (in the square box). Didn't see the same on the left side but maybe they are just trying to make it uniform on both sides?
Someone who bought one should be along shortly to verify or deny my observation.

The "holes" in the dust cover reveal the Serial Number which is now stamped on the metal rail which is integral to the fire-control mechanism. Perhaps the polymer frame can be replaced, ala Sig P320.
I played with one at Field & Stream this week. Nice stippling, a lot like the .45 Shield. Trigger feels similar to the "Performance Center" one....much improved over the prior one.

Why the "Shark Fin" Loaded Chamber Indicator on the 5" ?
I think it takes away from the aesthetics.

I'm not sure there's much you can do to FDE to make it look worse.
I think the rather unusual choices in early models may be a case of cleaning out the parts bin from military trials, old Performance Center parts, etc.

Maybe because the military wanted it? Only on the 5" because that's the only one S&W submitted?
I am curious to see if extends so far to the rear that it interferes with milling the slide for a red dot sight (CORE). An RMR needs a cut 1.75" front to back, with a rear sight dovetail cut behind it.

I like this type of indicator. I can feel it as well as see it. The "peep hole" on my Shield 45 is difficult at best for my aging eyes. Though I was brought up know that ALL guns are loaded, I like the way this is set up. My Taurus TPC pocket pistol has this on the side.

I don't think so. I can't recall that being on the list of requirements for the Modular Handgun System.
Modular Handgun System - Wikipedia
It might be that it only fits on the 5" model?

Yep, that's a serial number all right. However, I doubt they made those two cut outs just to put a serial number there.

I don't know why it has the LCI. I do know that it fits on the smallest guns. I have it on my Shield. I will ask them next week at the Shot Show.

Just a coincidence that the serial number and whatever that symbol is happen to show up in those new windows? I don't think so. I'd have to say that seems to be their only functional purpose.

Oh, I know you can make them smaller. I have a hunch they added it to the full-size gun for some legal or political purpose... perhaps to satisfy the law in one or more of the moonbat states?

I have seen pictures and some photos of the M&P 2.0, i like the more aggressive texturing and from what i read a longer steel chassis but why are so many worried about an audible trigger reset? I have had several M&P pistols and never had trouble feeling the reset and always wondered why people feel the need to hear the reset. In rapid fire at the range i have never thought of it (never even heard it with a Glock) and i doubt in a life threatening situation i'd even notice.

Not in the market for one, but I like the upgrades they made.
I hope S&W sells a boatload of them.

I held one yesterday at my LGS. Just a touch heavier than my SR1911 9mm. Very aggressive grip.
Put it on my "watch" list.

I'm one of those old guys who thinks of a K Frame .38 when he sees "M&P". Having made that pointless statement, I have to confess that there's something about this M 2.0 that I find attractive. I've never really cared for the M&P Pistols, but I may consider this one. If they ever make the 5 incher FDE without the thumb safety, I'm in!

I'd like to see a 5 inch, no LCI, sans thumb safety and in an olive drab color.
In reality I just want a 5 inch!
