M&P 22 compact feeding problem

I have a 22 compact and am have major feeding problems. Every mag there are a couple that will not chamber, I have to push the slide to get it into battery. I tried the same ammo in my wife 22c and 3 mags not one problem. I am using Remington Golden so thinking that was an issue I went to mini mags and same issue. It can happen 4 tor 5 times a mag, any help would be would be appreciated. Getting ready to call customer service. Thanks

Check for wax buildup on the front edge of the magazine (inside). I had a similar problem some time after I had used some CCI SV. There was a wax buildup thet needed to be cleaned out.

RGB should work fine if everything is clean and lubed.
 
Yep i would ensure the mag is clean (but not oiled) first to rule out any issues on the mag side
 
Were you ever able to resolve this problem? I'm thinking about getting know if these.
 
I just sent it back to smith & wesson today. Can't wait to find out what it was. I took peoples advise and cleaned the mags, not very dirty and they ran fine in my wife's also sent all 3 mags with it to. So now I just wait. Really enjoy shooting it to.
 
So I spoke to Smith&Wesson today and they polished the feed ramp and barrel and test fired it and said it is working properly. Can't wait to get it back and hit the range.
 
So I got my 22c back today and look at the feed ramp to see the polish job and it looks good, so I compare it to my wife 22c and my ramp groove looks wider than hers. Now I really can't wait to get to the range this weekend.
 
My wife is also having major issues with her M&P22 Compact. It absolutely hates Winchester and Remington hollow point ammo and still misfeeds LRN ammo. We've had too many misfires to count and she's had more than one instance where a round was not fully chambered but still fired, swelling the entire base of the round. We have about 250 rounds through it so far and I'm at the point that I don't trust it at all. What was the turn around time from S&W for the polish job? Did it work?

Dan,

Send it back with a detailed list of rounds fired, rounds failed, and ammo details. Call them to walk through it with CS, and get a shipping label.

But DO include a written explanation that covers the complaints in the box. There is not always a complete communication between the CS agent and the gunsmith. Gunsmith goes off the written list.

However, I would comment that my .22 Compact is picky. It is marginal with hollow point ammo, but runs great with CCI AR version.

Another comment - I've found recent Winchester and Federal .22 to be less than ideal.
 
I've had horrible results with Winchester & Remington HP and quite poor results with Federal High Velocity LRN ammo. I was about ready to do some polishing myself but figured I'd ask here first. Thanks for the input!

I'll call S&W tomorrow.

Odd that we are seeing some concerns about the .22c

Seems they have been "sewing machine reliable" in recent years and now a couple of complaints on reliability. Sounds like somethin changed on the line or somebody at the shop had a bad day.

Thats too bad because mine (and others here) have had great service out of the .22c, runs great and eats almost anything.
 
I picked up a 22c a few months ago, took it apart, cleaned all the grease out of it, then treated all the metal parts with Militec, heat cycling the recommended 3 times, added Williams sights, a Houge grip, a threaded barrel adapter, along with a Carolina Crusher muzzle compensator.
So far about 500 rounds thru it, it has ate everything I fed it, including 25-30 year old bulk ammo, but it LOVES Remington Wildcats.
It is my favorite plinking pistol, but I think my Colt Targetsman is more accurate, but far pickier on ammo!
The Militec and the feedramp polish I think made it run like it does, after the heat treating of all the metal parts, it feels like butter when you pull back on the slide!
 
And I wonder how often folks clean their pistols. My 22 Compact demands a field strip after every trip to the range. Otherwise lead starts building up, and problems start, sooner with some ammo than others.
 
When was the last time the pistol was cleaned? I mean, you have to field strip it after each trip to the range and run a brush dipped in Hoppes #9 and scrub the chamber & barrel real good if you want the pistol to run reliably. To me it sounds like carbon buildup in the chamber. Clean that thing.
 
Polishing the feed ramp helps with hollow points. I also polish the chamber area. Remington's have a very waxy coating. Many tight tolerance guns have trouble feeding them. I use Hoppe's bore solvent to remove any residue.

Agreed 100%. Last time out with mine I ran 20 mags or so of Remington GB when it started hanging OOB on every other round. I could easily see a residue ring inside the chamber. A quick clean with Hoppes and a brush got it running flawless again.

Over a year and no followup from the OP on whether the issue was resolved... ugh
