I ordered the black DLC on March 7th and barrel was shipped on the 23rd of March

Barrel was nicely made but seemed to have some superficial machining marks on the outside. Rifling looked excellent as well as the dimples. I purchased this barrel for my PC ported SW Shield. The fit of the barrel was excellent. I tried it out with 115gr WWB and HST 124 standard pressure. Barrel was extremely accurate and functioned flawlessly with both rounds. I have tested the 124 HST extensively through all sorts of pistols as that is my carry round. I have found the 147gr HST to be more accurate but more finicky due to its OAL. With the true -precision barrel and 124 HST the rounds at 7 yards were all within 1-1 1/4" off hand during relatively rapid fire. I put the OEM ported barrel back in and average group sizes were 1 1/2-2" at 7 yards relatively rapid fire with Federal HST 124gr.
I am very pleased with the new barrel. Function was 100% and extremely accurate. I will leave the barrel in the pistol for carry

Good for you and thanks for the review. Will you be carrying the TP barrel? Personally, I don't understand the reason to port a carry pistol.

It's nice to have the 9 Shield as a ported pistol, although for carry the reduced porting in the heat of a self-defense situation won't mean much. The ONLY problem with the ported 9 (I was going to sell my 9 Shield and buy one) is in close quarters, if you hold the gun to your body, the muzzle blast and gases will be directed towards your face. You just can't fire the gun from that position.

OP: Thanks for the review. Was looking at the PC40, and tossing in a TP barrel (they've a conv. barrel) for range use but ended up with the PC9. Your review will help as I am not exactly a fan of the ports and a slightly longer barrel is nice.

Cant the slide away from you, but I agree, I wanted the PC more for the "OEM" trigger work and the porting was the biggest gripe against it.

There is also some ammunition such as Blazer Brass which can not be used in a ported barrel.

I have no complain on my non ported shield, never cared for the pc model mine had a great trigger out of the box, I would like to get the BLACKIND barrel though.

Never heard of this and I usually shoot BBrass at the range, I remember looking for any warnings on the Blazer Brass boxes too. I have purchased some hollow points though, that do state against use in ported barrels though.

EDIT: I have a TP threaded barrel on the way thanks to the gf.

We'll its right there on the back of the box. Not to be used with ported barrels or compensators.

Now... When I first purchased my PC Shield that's all I had at the time was Blazer Brass. Put 350 RDS thru it before I heard about it. While I had no issues, I saved the Blazer for my XDM and have since been using either Magtech or American Eagle, both of which are fine to be used in ported barrels.

For EDC I use Federal HST Tactical and I have found no warnings on the box against using in ported barrels.

My guess is Blazer Brass uses plated bullets. Anyone know if plated bullets are not good with barrel ports?

Regarding a ported gun for self defense use, the video makes a good point but that is theoretical and in a perfect world. There is the chance that you will not be able to position the gun in such an advantageous position.

Also, ported guns tend to be much louder than non-ported guns. For what that's worth...

As I understand it Blazer Brass ammo uses a thinner plating, hence the reason for the warning. Like I said I used 350 rounds of it with no problems before I found out about it. They're just covering their rear for liability reasons. Magtech and American Eagle are two that I know that do NOT have this warning.

I shot my last boxes of Blazer in the past few days. It didn't say anything about porting and compensated barrels.

I know I've read about it before and stopped using Blazers in the ported barrel, then forgot and had no issues with it. Just need to remember.
