Got a new m and p core today in 9 mm
Picked up a new m and p core today in 9 mm. I have a 2.0 in 9 mm. I got two weeks ago in 5 inch as well have new sights put on it the ameriglo trijicon insert sights it's in fde. My question is will a leupold or a vortex razor red dot work on the core. I will be useing this a target pistol. Will probably put a apex trigger kit in it will shoot it first. Definitely going with a red dot though as this is why I got it.

Your CORE came with plates that should tell you which red dots will work with them. I believe one of the plates will work with the Vortex and Leupold.

How did the sights co-witness with the Vortex Viper? Did you have to change your sights or don't use them at all?

I'm interested in which Vortex co-witnesses with the C.O.R.E. Series M&P's the best: Venom or Viper?

I have a Viper on my 5" CORE and the cowitness is perfect. Works great. I thought Venom does not quite cowitness (but verify that).

I bought a Venom first and it sits a little lower than the Viper. The Viper Does co-witness best in that brand.

Well I settled on the vortex viper red dot. I purchased it from optic planet for my new pistol. Can't wait to mount it and give it a try. Looking at getting another pistol to carry looking at getting a m and p 2.0 or a ported 9mm performance ctr pro series both in 4.25 inch standard version. I have a 2.0 I picked up used a few weeks ago at the cabelas gun library. It was like new in fde. It had a apex trigger in it was the 5 inch version in 9 mm. Having ameriglo trijicon insert sights put on it. Been three weeks as they were back logged at the shop I took it to.

Initially, my CORE had poor accuracy. I installed a fitted Apex 9mm barrel and it's very accurate now. I believe it rivals my old 52.

Couldn't you have sent it back for a new barrel under warranty?

Finally got mine set up thanks to some good advice from old and grumpy. Using a vortex viper with #5 plate and B screws and blue loctite. Snugged the locking screws until I had a bind on the windage and elevation screws. Centered the dot in the viewing area and tested it with my laserlyte system at 10 yards. No problem hitting center every time. Co-witness is perfect. Can't wait to get to the range. Found a revolution paddle holster that supports the rig nice and snug with a clean draw.

I can't even get that gun in mass, it's not on the AG list, so

Nope. If you don't need retention a blade tech revolution works fine. Comes with paddle and belt options
Safariland makes an ALS style that uses your index finger to lock the firearm in place. Mine came with a paddle but it will accept a range of options.

at what kind of ranges (distance) have you tested accuracy out to yet?
I shoot my shield and 9C very well (now that I've had the triggers done)
but only out to about 50 feet.
I've been thinking about getting into some competition and figured this rig would be a good fit for me, since I feel at home with the M&P line.

My indoor range has a limitation of 20 yards. I'll give you my example of accuracy. At 15 feet with iron sights I split a popsicle stick in half free hand. I also noticed the decrease in muzzle flip and being in an enclosed area the additional noise created was negligent. I load my own 9mm. My best accurate loads are extreme 124gr copper plated with 4.4gr titegroup and 1.125 oal.

BladeTech's Combo Pack seemed like a great deal to me: both belt & paddle options, twin magazine carrier and a "practice barrel".
My question out there is about other owner's experiences when cleaning the ported barrel: mine seems to accumulate quite a bit externally after even a mild range visit... Say 75 rounds of plated 40 reloads? If there is THAT much on the outside, just IMAGINE the insides!
It all comes off, eventually, but I eventually tried using a little Mother's Mag Wheel Polish and a Q-Tip. Used a little Ballistol afterwards to C-L-P the metal.
Cheers!
P.S. Sure do like the trigger on the PC C.O.R.E. Big improvement, IMHO!

When you say "....on the inside...." if you mean in the bore, then no. Burnt powder blasts out the same as an unported gun. Just that some goes out the ports, some out the end.....

I have a PC 4.25" ported core and a Vortex Viper red dot. Mine co-witnesses with the irons perfectly. My only beef is that the locking screws to secure your windage and elevation adjustment is blocked by the rear sight. It can be worked around I suppose, but it IS a pain in the keyster.

I called vortex about that and they stated that even if the locking screws weren't tight the settings should not lose zero. I'll see when I get mine to the range next week

I get a lot of carbon on the exterior of my barrel as well. It is tenacious stuff that doesn't wipe off with CLP or Iosso brightening paste (whatever it's called - similar to Flitz). I have to scrape the deposits off the barrel. The slide and frame get some schmutz as well, but it comes off easy enough.
Oddly, I also am a fan of "C" Glocks that have similar ports, and the barrel just wipes clean. The hard stuff that sticks on a Glock is on the cross-section surfaces of the slide port cuts.

How did you determine how much tightening force to put on the mounting screws. Did you buy a torque screwdriver?

The performance shield is a much better gun than the regular shield. Better trigger sights and is ported. I'm using a safariland 7371 tls paddle holster.

and it arrived today
IMG_2096.jpg
I actually got to hit the range with it today as well.
I don't have the Red dot dialed in how I want it yet,
and it took me about 70 rounds to get used to a 5" full sized gun (all I've been shooting for the past year is my shield and 9C)
but I did OK (not great yet) but for my first outing with this thing at 50 feet. (the red dot is pointing me high and to the right)
day one with the PC M&P.jpg
I'm confident after a few more trips and getting some one to help me dial in the Dot , I'll be on my way to some Steel plate challenges
I've never owned a ported handgun before.....so far I'm really liking it

My experience with the ported barrel/slide was not good. After about 20 rounds of Fiocchi 9mm FMJ, my front sights and slide were covered in powder residue.
After 1,000 plus rounds, I changed the barrel with an Apex semi-fit non-ported barrel and was the best decision IMO. I should of just got the Pro.

I shot about 200 rounds today and did not have anywhere near what your picture showed.
I may at some point go with an apex barrel, but as of right now , it's looking like I got one of the good ones. (Most likely will change out the trigger as that hinged design bothers me after a while)

Kmanick, not the first time I've heard that. Somebody posted on another forum that they put 200 rounds of S&B and didn't have the powder problem I had. Maybe its the Fiocchi I was shooting.
Not to hijack the thread, but the Apex barrel did make the gun significantly more accurate compared to the S&W ported barrel.

Maybe one of you kind gentlemen can help me. I bought my core used and wanted to mount a viper but was missing a type B screw. I contacted S&W and they kindly sent me the wrong screw. If you have one type B you can part with I would be eternally grateful and if I ever get things straightened out with S&W I will return your type B. Thanks

day 2 at 25 feet. 10 rounds somewhat rapid fire, a definite improvement over yesterday.
I'm really digging this thing.......... a lot
Looks like my barrel is pretty accurate.

I too have the M&P 9L pc have had it a couple years now and it's by far my favorite! I have never touched the sights..never needed to. Love the trigger, very smooth. As far as the barrel..well it's a give and take kinda thing. Yes after a couple mags I have to give the front sight a wet thumb wipe and back in business. I really haven't had a problem with cleaning my barrel. I soak it in hoppes while I go thru the rest of the gun...then I use a brass wire brush and it gets the job done.

It shot minute of felon with the factory barrel and was within specs I suppose. The Apex barrel (and trigger) made it into a true target gun. All five shots touching at 25 yards from a rest is no challenge. Mine shoots tighter groups at 25 yards than groups pictured in this thread, which were shot at 25 feet. The Apex barrel is well worth the money.

I bought it used, with the Apex resverse angle trigger kit already installed. I got a good deal on it because of the poor accuracy. There's several threads here that covers the 9 M&P poor accuracy issue. Apex did a lot of diagnostics and re-engineering to come up with their target barrel.

I have the same problem. I had to drift the rear sight quite a ways to get decent accuracy. The installation of the vortex viper should help immensely. I bought mine on amazon because they were offering an instant cash rebate if you signed up for their credit card. If I remember the total cost was just a little above $100.

Did you get the semi drop in or the gunsmith barrel. Did you do the mods yourself or take it to a gunsmith.
