Default Shield 9 With Green Laser

I have a couple of S&W J-Frame revolvers with laser grips. As my eyes get into their 70s, lasers and red dots become less a gimmik and more a necessity.

Yesterday I saw a M&P 9 v1.0 with a Green CT LG489G for sale at $20 more than the one with a red laser, it cost me $499. Not having a carry semi-auto with a laser, I bought it.

The lasers on the J-Frames do extend my usefull range out to 15 yards, and even further. I see targets much better at that distance when I don't have to focus at front sight distance.

I haven't shot it yet, and am looking forward to it. I am really hoping not to have half a dozen inputs about getting a v 2.0 Green Laser for $450.

The 2.0 version is not as good, IMO. It's not grip activated, like the 1.0's are. Big step backwards for a SD gun, IMO.

We have 3 M&P's with the grip activated CT green lasers, 2 of those being Shield's. Great system, especially for aging eyes, and SD. So much more visible in daylight than the red lasers. Battery life has been good too.

I agree the grip switch is best. No need to look to find the switch, pick up the gun, and it's on.

The red lasers are fine for cloudy days or inside. But trying it outside yesterday convinced me on green. Note: I read somewhere that 10-15% of people see red better.

Red is only useful in low or no light. Green can still be seen in daylight. Far superior.

I took it to the range today, and was very pleased.

I did forget to mention that I already have a Shield 9 v1.0 PC model. The new one with the laser is effective to greater distances than the one without. I was able to hold COM out to 20 yards, well beyond what I expect.

I did notice the new one shot just a bit snappier (as expected, the older PC model having a ported barrel) and sounded a little louder. I thought the one with the ported barrel would be louder.

The improved accuracy at distance was also expected. I see much better with both eyes focusing on the target than just one eye focusing on the front sight. That's why I got the laser.

The only problem is it won't fit in my favorite kydex belt holster. But, I have a IWB Sticky holster it fits, and a good excuse to visit the Gun Show next month.

Congrats, the Shield is a good choice in a concealed carry gun, I have several lasers on different EDC guns, revolvers and autos, I find the green laser works best in all conditions for my eyes, which are 72 years young, I have the PC Ported 9mm Shield , no laser, and it's accurate and fun to shoot, I also have the new 2.0 intregated green CT Laser 9mm Shield, and really like the new grip finish, my hand really locks on when shooting, both my Shields are very accurate, the 2.0 laser is nice in the sense that I can choose to use it or not, and it's easy to tap on with either hand, but the CT Laser guard is my favorite with just a grip and it's on, I wear mine in a Vedder Light Tuck kydex IWB holster that's made for this 2.0 with intregated laser, my other Shield wears a Clinger Stringray kydex holster IWB...enjoy your Shield, I know my eyes appreciate mine..

You might also try a pocket holster. That is what I use for my Keltec PF9 w/ laser. No it is not going to be as fast a draw as a good belt holster, but it's a nice option to have. I find that in the summer I always wear wrangler cargo shorts and the cut of the pocket opening makes for a reasonable draw. Especially when it's hot out and shirts are thinner and more likely to print, dropping it into my front pocket is really easy and NO chance of anyone noticing it.
