Does anyone own the new Shield 40 w/int. laser? I have the 1.0 Shield 9 and the 45 and I am thinking about trying the 40. My eye sight is really going south fast and I was wondering how well the CT green laser would be for target and carry?

I own the Shield M2.0 40 with the factory green laser.

At first I thought the activation switch was too easy to press. I was afraid it might get pressed just from drawing the gun from the holster. But, I haven't had that problem. The switch only requires a very light press and has never turned on accidentally.

I have several guns with red lasers. The green laser is much easier to see in brighter lighting conditions.

From a self defense/home defense perspective, I regard the 2.0 CT laser as a distinct downgrade to the one the 1.0 Shields had. All you had to do to turn the 1.0 version on was grip the gun. The new one, you have to actually physically turn it on, something that might not come to mind in a stressful situation.

I used to own a Kahr PM9 with the CT laser. It looks like the laser for the Kahr uses the same design for activating the laser as for the Shield.

Perhaps it is the size/shape of my hand and fingers, but I could never reliably activate the laser on the Kahr. To get the right part of my finger on the activation switch, I had to hold the gun awkwardly. Also, the lower edge of the section where the activation switch is located would dig into my finger each time I fired the gun. It actually drew blood a couple of times.

I had considered getting a Shield M2.0 and then adding the CT laser. But, after my experience with the Kahr, I decided to go the factory laser route.

Back to the OP's question, CT and Lasermax both offer green lasers for the Shield. So, you have 3 choices for a green laser with a Shield M2.0.

Thanks for the response to my question! But I am not sure everyone is clear on the gun I am interested in. I know CT makes after market laser units for the Shield, but I am asking about a factory supplied, integrated CT green laser that is installed in the gun. (Not an add on unit.) For reference, this is the link to S&W's offering.

Yes, I understood your question.

I have a Shield M2.0 40 with the integrated factory laser (green) and I also have a Shield M2.0 9 with the integrated factory laser (red).

I've actually had a holster issue because the factory laser is a bit wider than the CT and Lasermax add-on lasers. But, a little use of a Dremel tool took care of the holster issue.

With the integrated laser, you're probably going to have a broader selection of holsters available.

When I first got my Kahr PM9, it took a lot of practice to get used to it and shoot accurately. The gun is so small and light and has such a short barrel that it was a challenge.

With that experience with the Kahr, I haven't had much trouble with the Shields. I had done a little shooting with the original Shield. The biggest challenge for me with Shield M2.0 is the trigger. It has taken some time to get used to the feel of this new trigger. Initially, I kept pulling to the left...just had to get comfortable with the trigger break.

I also understood what you meant. Check out the "laser guard" lasers that CT produces to understand the difference I was talking about. Not sure they make one for the 2.0 shield yet.

I checked in to CT Laser Guard for S&W hand guns and like what they produce! I am contemplating purchase of the LG-485G GREEN LASERGUARD® for my M&P Shield.45 ACP. I do like the normal grip activation feature and the fact of being able to remove the unit if I so desire. I found the LG-485G available on eBay for less than $200. Now to convince my wife I really do need it!

Good choice! We have those on 3 of our M&P's. Never had a lick of prolems with any of them. Probably going to put one on my P320c also. And they work equally well for target, SD and HD.
