What's going on with the M&P 22 Full Size?
Sorry if this has been addressed before, I am new to the pistol community and could not find this answer googling.
I have really wanted a full size M&P 22, however every website I check it is sold out, been searching for quite some time and cannot find any dealer who has a full size model, only compact models.
Any particular reason for this? Are they that popular? Or stopped production?
Thank you in advance.

I know where several are NIB but the prices are way too high for me. I just picked up a second one last week used for $250. They are out there but getting harder to come by.

I could be way off but thought i have read the full size 22 was actually built by Walther. And with the compact and Victory models the full size wasnt in production or wouldnt be for long.
Again could be wrong thats just what i thought i read/heard. But if that is the case then new ones will be harder to find.
Perhaps contact SW to get more info on them.

You are correct Walther made the full size. One of the reasons they are so good. If you can’t score one the PPQ 22 is essentially the same gun. I have 2 of them as well.

They are in high demand. And are an excellent pistol thus becoming very desireable.

I wouldn’t take a dozen compacts for my full size. I shoot everything from subs to supers and mostly suppressed. Only issue I have is when my lazy butt doesn’t clean it. Otherwise it’s flawless

Are you referring to the 4" threaded barrel guns? A quick search turned up one on-line dealer that has the 10-round model for $364.
If willing to settle for a Walther PPQ 22, they are widely available for less than $325 (12 round version). I know that is not what you posted about .... just brought it up as a very similar alternative at an attractive price.

I've owned two of them and neither one fed or functioned reliably.
Hope you have better luck.
Never more for me.

I have well over 10,000 rounds through my original one. Only issues I have is when it gets super dirty from shooting suppressed. I recently bought another. To me it is the best trainer type pistol on the market.

My experience was more like Out West. My full sized M&P was very ammo picky. I could shoot some CCI, but nothing else fed well in it. I had it out the last time with Fed., Winchester, Remington, Browning and CCI. It jammed frequently on all of them except some CCI Green Tag ammo I had.
I traded it for a Ruger MkIII.
I keep meaning to try the compact model, just haven't done it yet.

Maybe there are a few out there that need a little love. Did anyone that had a picky one send it in to S&W? I personally know of 5 others that are in my close group of friends. They all have the same experiences I do and we all shoot 22 matches together with no issues. I rarely shoot anything better than bulk federal match. Mostly cci and Aguila standard and subs. My experience with the compact was about the same as my sig mosquito and mark1. CCI minimags were about the only thing they were reliable on and they were just too expensive to shoot that much. I will put a couple thousand through the new one I picked up a couple weeks ago and give a range report. I will purposely wait until it fails to clean it just to see where it stands.

I'm in the same boat. Been putting it off for a while with other distractions. Now I'm looking, specifically for the 222000. Buds, PSA and some of the others, out of stock. Gun deals shows everyone out of stock. 2 on Gunbroker. Compacts are available. Are that that much in demand? Discontinued? Or is something else going on? Gonna have to call around local I guess. Or if they're discontinued, maybe reconsider my choice.

A related question - is the scarcity of new pistols the result of a 2.0 .22 coming soon? Can't believe they'd just stop selling these things.

I thought that they were discontinued when the compact was released.

They are still listed on the Smith and Wesson home page and one photo shows that they are made by Walther.

Just got off the phone with S&W CS. The M&P 22 is still being made by Walther in Germany and S&W is still marketing & servicing it. I noticed that the German proof marks are not on the slide in the photo that is on their M&P 22 page and I asked about that too, they said they did away with the German proof marks....

Advertising and servicing are not the same as selling or having them on hand. Checking with area shops, large and small, no one has any on hand. The only thing I've found was compacts. No issues with those.

As a follow up, I contacted S&W CS. Asked the same questions posed here. The CS person seemed dumbfounded by the questions. Fiddled around on their keyboard and said still good, no problems, don't know what you're talking about, should be able to order it if the LGS doesn't have it. Yet, the sources shown on the "Buy Now" button on the website all say Out Of Stock. Frustrating. Either CS is in the dark or they aren't saying.
