My first M&P .45
My first M&P .45
It fit my hand and has never been fired so I took it.
One of these days I might just shoot it too.

You will love shooting that little jewel! I also have one in dark earth color. The grip fits my hand perfectly unlike a government 45. Felt recoil seems a lot less too.

The best guns of the M&P series - and not just because they’re .45 caliber. The .45s are actually great shooters. You’ll like it once you get used to the - uh - trigger.
Congrats on the new .45.

Mine is the easiest shooting .45 ACP I've ever owned. And it fits my hand better than any other as well. I love it!

I also have this Cole 1911 and its never been shot either.
This M&P is the first S&W .45 that feels good in my hand so I took it. This one like the Colt is a perfect fit.
Not sure I'll ever shoot this one either.
I'm also looking at a Remington Rand 1911 government model that was manufactured during WW2 and its never been fired either.
Maybe I shuld look for a 1911 that I can shoot. LOL

That's a beauty. I have that same M&P 45, it's got a 100% perfect range record; having fed, fired and ejected every single round perfectly since I have owned it. I don't know why you don't shoot it, it's not a rare or expensive gun and it's a lot more fun to shoot than my 45 Shield. The Shield is more accurate for me though. Oh well, you can enjoy looking at I guess, lol.

To be honest I don't know why I probably wont shoot it either. Weird isn't it.
I don't have a large gun collection but most of the ones I have have been shot a lot, really a lot.
I think I like having a few guns that have never been fired.
I know this probably sounds even dumber but if I really get the desire to shoot it I'll probably buy another one just like it.

if You are thinking collector's value, and that is Your reasoning for not shooting, let me be the one to say it.
go get a case of brass cased 230 grain, and hop to it...neither of them is a colt python, or a bren ten. If you are not willing to do pepsi challenge of M&P vs 1911, send the 2 of them to me, and, i'll do it for You, and send them back...
seriously...go wring those 2 puppies out....treat them like a rental car...make sure you are sweaty, out of breath, and want a cigarette when You're done.
report back to us afterwards.

LOL!!!
Nope, neither one are collectible or really have any monetary value.
I paid $150 for the M&P and I can't remember what I gave for the Colt.
My brother had the Colt for years and never shot it so neither am I.

I have some knives like that, never used. But I buy firearms with a functional purpose; self defense, home defense, hunting, etc. So for me, a gun that has never been fired is an "unproven" weapon.

I have three other guns that I carry for self defense depending on where I'm going and what I'm doing. I carry the same one 98% of the time and the other two the other 2%.
I have my favorite handgun, 28-2 on my nightstand for home defense and an FN FAL leaning in the corner.
I don't hunt.
I have other pistols that have been shot a lot so if I want to go shooting I have a few others to choose from. I much prefer shooting my .357s over my other .45, a Glock.
I just picked up a nice 686 too and I can't wait to sling some lead thru it.
I see no reason to ever fire either one of these two .45s. I like that they never have been fired.
I'm sure some folks don't get it but that's OK.

Count me as one of them. Barring physical limitations, I don't understand not firing a gun. It's like buying a guitar and never strumming it.
If it were some remarkably rare model or had some unique lineage, I would understand not wanting to risk damaging it for posterity. However, The M&P is neither rare, collectible or unique.
But hey, it's your gun, do what you like. I just don't get it.

Sometimes buying products and never opening or using them can be a type of "hoarding." They have this show on TV about it, they think it's a mental issue I guess. For some reason they feel like they need to own something brand new that's never been opened. Some people have hundreds of brand new items still in boxes that have never been used, piled up on the floor all over their house, kinda weird but it happens. I have some ammo like that, emergency stash if you will, tucked away in ammo cans. But my guns have all been tested and I know they all work.

I guess then having two guns that I'll never shoot makes me a hoarder.
I'm also going to pick up Remington Rand 1911A1 that's never been fired too and I never will shoot it either.
Just because I like a couple "new never been fired" guns makes me a hoarder.
But if that's how you see me then that's OK.

I've been going thru a private collection and last night there were 5-6 different model S&W .45 autos that have never been fired.
Several others that maybe had one magazine run thru them including a Glock Gen 1 9mm auto and a really nice S&W 1006.
I guess having guns that have never been fired runs in the family. LOL

How can you tell if a gun has never been fired vs one that has just one magazine through it?

I can't.
I have a "gun expert" that is looking at each gun for us.
He determines that.

OK, what did they do?
I don't think anyone can tell by looking. All guns are fired at the factory. So, claiming a gun is "un-fired" is a misnomer anyway.

Yep, I guess so. Yes they've all been fired once.
With no evidence of the clip ever having any marks from being loaded and no residue from being fired I guess we really should say "only shot once".
I seriously doubt that either one of my .45 autos have ever been fired other than the one time at the factory.
I apologize if I'v mislead anyone or made false claims. It was never my intention.

This really the only S&W .45 auto that I like the feel of it in my hand.
I'v held a lot of them lately and I like this one the best. Colt's seem to fit me better than S&Ws.
I probably will end up shooting this one because I'm not really fond of my .45 Glock.

I never thought you were trying to mislead anyone. I was just trying to learn some more about how to judge a used gun.

I wish I could help. I have a good friend who's helping go through a small collection and I know nothing about guns except which one feels good in my hand.
He's quite knowledgeable - actually his knowledge is very impressive.

I was quite happy to find the original case, papers and spent shell for my M&P .45
Looks like it has been fired at least once and Tom's the one who did shoot it. LOL

Oh man, that colt with the duck bill is just begging to be turned loosed to run. You're stronger than me for sure. IMG_0502 (1).jpg

I seriously doubt that I'll ever shoot the Colt even as much as I like the way it fits my hand.
I am however going to shoot my M&P .45. I'v decided to sell my Glock .45 and buy a nice shoulder holster for the M&P now that its getting cooler outside. I really like the way it feels.

Since I made this comment I have seen the gun again and it has been fired. It is in exceptional condition.
Sorry for the mistake.
