Looking for input on one vs. the other from those with experience with them. I like the idea that the M&P is threaded if I want to add a can later.

Depending on the 22C model, you may need to purchase an adapter.

Folks at my range like the Ruger better, but I have the issue that it has a safety that is totally opposite of anything I've ever owned.

I own the original version of the 22C, and have 10,019 rounds through it.

I'm afraid I'll be no help. We've got both , and our opinions are split. My wife prefers the 22c and I prefer the sr22.
However, the 22c has fewer malfunctions and seems to be more accurate. I prefer the sr22 because it's truly ambidextrous and the controls are the same as my m9.It is also less choosy about ammunition.

I have owned both and have kept the .22 Compact. My SR22 must have been a lemon, as it had a lot of feeding issues. I never could get it thru a range session without any jams. Had three mags - same thing with all three. Tried different ammo including (IMO) the best there is for autos, Mini-Mags. Completely different story with my .22 Compact; zero functionality problems over the span of prolly 300 rounds. That's a low round count, I know, but I am very happy with it. I really wanted to like the SR22, but it just didn't work out. I also didn't like the dead trigger on it when it was placed on safe. The trigger would move and then (prolly as designed) just stick back in the fully fired position until it was taken off-safe.

I had a SR 22 and encountered a dead trigger every so often, I was told it was due to the mag disconnect, I don't know. I have a Smith Mp22c now and I really like it, except it ejects the casings back at me, still trying to figure that out.

I had a threaded barrel SR22 about a year or so agoa. It stumbled a couple of times early on, but I was using bulk ammo like Thunderbolts and AutoMatch & figured it was the ammo's problem. I ran about 100 CCI's through it and it never acted up again. Then I got talked out of it by a family member. Thinking I ought to get another one, but I don't need a threaded one. (at least not until they, if they ever do, get cheaper and have less red tape on suppressors)

I love my 22c, but just picked up a Taurus TX22, simply awesome!
It is more full sized, but has an amazing trigger, and a threaded barrel!
16 round magazines, what a hoot!
