I am surprised it took them this long. I liked my M&P9c.

Smith & Wesson Inc. announced today that it has introduced the M&P M2.0 Subcompact pistol to its M&P M2.0 pistol series. The latest addition to the M2.0 family, the M&P M2.0 Subcompact pistol features a smaller, subcompact frame that’s ideal for concealed carry. With a 12+1 round capacity in 9mm, the M&P M2.0 Subcompact pistol series includes the full array of M&P M2.0 enhancements. Available in 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 Auto, the M&P M2.0 Subcompact joins the existing Full Size and Compact pistol options that are available in the M2.0 line.

Jan Mladek, General Manager of Smith & Wesson and M&P brands, said, “As the M&P M2.0 pistol series has continued to expand, we have worked to introduce pistols that fit a variety of different needs: from professional use, to recreational shooting, to home defense, to concealed carry. The M&P M2.0 Subcompact is designed for every day carry — its shorter frame makes it more concealable while still maintaining a higher double-stack magazine capacity. One constant across the M&P M2.0 series — whether it’s a Full Size, Compact, or Subcompact pistol — is the legendary reliability and shootability of the M&P pistol.”

The M&P M2.0 Subcompact pistols ship with two magazines, including two magazine extender sleeves for use with M2.0 full-size and compact magazines, as well as a limited warranty and lifetime service policy. The new M&P M2.0 Subcompact is available with or without an ambidextrous thumb safety and is chambered in 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 Auto, with an MSRP starting at $569.

I'm curious to see what a "subcompact" 45 auto entails. S&W already has the Shield 45........A double stack subcompact 45 maybe?

It's the Gen 1 45c upgraded to 2.0 specs. Just about the same size as the 9mm 4 inch compact model. Couple millimeters wider in the slide. I have the first gen, and it's a great compact .45. I wouldn't call it sub-compact though.

Sounds like it's the 1.0 Compact in a 2.0 suit now labeled Subcompact.

Looks like the 3.6" Compact may be redundant now that I can add a sleeve to the compact mag and get to 15 rounds (or 17).

I'll guess the 1.0 compact mags will fit. Imagine the confusion buying mags and spare parts.

S&W has it all wrong. The name of the game is Sig 365/Hellcat size and capacity. This looks like the old M&P9c which is too big if you ask me

I somewhat agree. However, there are those with hands that are simply too big for the micro compact size of the P365 or Hellcat. That's where pistols like the G26, M&P 9c (sc), or even the G19 or new M&P 9 compact (15 round) series come into play. Having said that, I'm very happy with my medium/large sized hands shooting my Sig P365.

A very slight mod to the Shield frame and a new mag and Boom, they are in that game probably at a much better price point.

It would have been stupid not to do this. They're already making the 3.6 barrel and frame and the 12/10 round short mags are in their supply chain now. The frame is probably the cheapest part to make once the molds have been made, so this is just extra money for little effort.

Count me in. My 1.0c is one of my favorite carry guns. Although I like the Sig 365, it is not the same in my hands as this size of gun.
