I'm excited about the new EZ version of the Shield but I've yet to see a side by side comparison. Everything on Youtube is against the .380 EZ.

Does anyone have both the original (or 2.0) to compare with the new model? I'm curious is the EZ 9 is the same size or if there are any differences in capacity. Thank you.

I think you may be confused about the two firearms. The Shield is in 9mm, .40 or .45 in Gen1 or two versions. The Shield EZ is only in .380 and is a whole different animal. I have handled and shot an EZ that a woman had in one of my classes. They are a medium sized semi auto with a grip safety. Their claim to fame is the fact that the slide is extremely easy to rack compared to other .380's and .9mm pistols. All I have read about them is that they run well and are accurate. I do believe that the early ones had some issues with the mags and that this has been corrected.

They have a Shield EZ in 9mm now it's brand new with the same grip safety.

Yea their web site shows the new 9mm EZ, don't know where you would get one as yet. Going to a gun show in Pasadena Saturday may be one there.

Just thinking about others who have tried to get the 9mm more friendly for women was Walther, they have the CCP but it is a jamming piece, as it is very sensitive to limp wristing. I may have or wait this one out and see if it will work.

I have no side by side pics to show comparison. The overall length of the new EZ9, however, is 6.8" compared to the Shield 2.0 at 6.1". Barrel length -- 3.75" for EZ9, 3.1" for Shield.
The grip length is also a bit longer on the EZ9.
Overall the size of the new EZ9 is more similar to the M&P 3.6 compact.
Here is a size comparison of the Shield 9 and the M&P 3.6 Compact. The size of the new EZ9 is almost exactly that of the 3.6 Compact (except for a slightly smaller grip length and a slimmer width).

Laura, given the newness of the M&P 9 EZ, there may not be many responses for awhile, but here are the "product spec sheets" from the "Dealer Resources" section at the bottom of most pages on Smith & Wesson's website.

The spec sheets provide more specifications than the regular page consumers normally see (e.g. height). If a spec is left out, you can generally find it on another spec sheet of a similar model.

I've owned an M1.0 Shield in 9mm and I currently own a Performance Center Shield M2.0. Right off the bat the M&P 9 Shield EZ is a longer gun with an overall length of 6.8 inches compared with the standard Shield (non-EZ) which comes in at 6.1 inches. It's taller and wider as well.

I find this website pretty helpful in visualizing the size difference. You just need to plug in the length, width, and height from the spec sheets. Easy Size Comparison

Thank you for the replies folks. Yes, I knew it was new but I didn't realize how new until I started my search. It'll be interesting to see how it sells, the reliability and if it makes my state. While I have no problems with the majority of the guns I've handled and own, it would be nice to find something for the day when hand strength is lacking. Glad it's available in the 9mm too..... Tell that to the people that are still having the problems. On this forum and others there are plenty of posts about stove pipes and failure to extract with no fixes for them. Many have sent in mags and guns only to get them back with the same problems and a few that run better but still fail. Also some that seem to at least for now run right.

At least one LGS has them in stock for $399.

I wonder if the longer barrel and slide allow S&W a little more room to play with the recoil spring set up to make the slide easier to rack. More mass in the slide may help tame recoil and perhaps allow for lighter recoil springs. The new EZ is also about 5 oz heavier than a Shield 2.0.

Saw a NIB 380 EZ at a gun show for a crazy low price (before S&W $50 rebate). Included S&W bag, range kit, etc. Seems now I know why such a good deal. BTW I did buy it. Pick it up this weekend!

I stand corrected. Try to stay up on all of the new stuff and usually am right on top of it but missed this new entry. Sounds interesting.

For what its worth, i see my local Cabelas shows the new model in store. Not that they have it on sale yet but that could be a nice way to compare different models in person.

Just an fyi

The new ez is bigger than the original Shield. Has two 8 round mags. I did not shoot it but I did rack the slide and dry fired it. Two finger rack and pushed the follower all the way down to the bottom of the mag with ease. The trigger has less travel and the break is clean.

I have just got the new 9 Shield EZ. I also have the 380EZ and had the original Shield 9. Both the 380 and 9 EZs are larger than the Shield. The new 9 is slightly larger than the 380.

Als Sporting Goods in Logan, Utah has the new 9EZ in stock and has a very good price on it. I got mine yesterday.

Looked at one today at the LGS. I sold the shield 1.0 due to arthritis in my hands and picked up a 6 round j frame size 38 revolver.
I really like the new 9mm EZ and plan to pick one up soon. The slide is so (Pardon the pun) EZ to rack. There are a number of YouTube videos out on It already.
In regards to the 380 issues alluded to. The 380ez can be ammo sensitive.There is a lot of info on line as to why a gun stovepipes and has ejection problems. Most have to do with ammo and limp wresting. Price at my LGS was $445.
UPDATE: Got a 9mm EZ on 12/21. Took it home and cleaned/oiled before I go to the range.
Can rack the slide with 2 fingers and NEVER had a mag that loaded SO easily! Great grip angle, well balanced, feels really good in the hand. Got it for $399.99 out the door! LGS was having a sale.

Since it's hammer fired, does it have re-strike capability (get 2nd try on misfire)?

My understanding is the hammer is cocked by the slide retracting, so no, it doesn’t have DAO trigger actuated cocking. It is a single action trigger that only drops the hammer, not cocks it.

I agree. Got mine a couple days ago and have both 380 & 9 EZ. 9 isn't much longer (1/8"-1/4" ??) Slide is heavier/thicker. But side by side just looking, they look almost the same. Comes with or with-out a thumb safety.

I'd venture to say, anyone that likes the size and feel of the EZ 380 but would like a little more caliber/power will love the EZ9. Nice size grip for some one with smaller hands and easy to rack the slide. It racks WAAAAAY easier than the smaller 9 Shield.

A LGS received 10 of the new EZ 9’s yesterday. Upon a quick examination, I was not impressed. The trigger was horrible, the slide was no easier then a Shield and it appeared to be larger overall then a Shield. There was also a manual safety but I believe another version is being produced without the safety.

From all the reviews I have seen or watch everyone says the trigger is great. They measured it as a smooth 4.5 lbs. They also say the slide is easy to operate. The slide is larger because of the pressure is more than the .380.

I brought home a 9mm Shield today (merry Xmas to me), but the wife seemed to like it. With her advanced arthritis I may have to look at one of the EZ models for her.

Huh? The regular Shield has a very difficult to rack slide. Not for me, but certainly takes an effort. Lots of posts on here over the years complaining about it. While the 9MM EZ isn’t quite as easy as the .380 version, it is far lighter than the regular Shield. And the trigger felt fine to me. It’s a mass produced striker fired Plastic pistol, not a tuned 1911.

I’ll eventually get one. I see they put some sort of a dimple in the magazine. Jerry Miculek comments on it. Says it’s to prevent rounds from moving forward in the magazine. Guess S&W finally admitted there’s an issue with the .380 stove-piping. Maybe they’ll design new .380 mags and exchange the old mags for the new style.

I had a Shield Ver 2.0 9mm and replaced it with the Shield 9mm EZ model. Unfortunately, for my concealed setup, I decided that the larger size just wasn't working for me and returned it and got my old regular Shield back. I will say that the trigger on the EZ 9mm was VERY GOOD. Much better than the trigger on my regular Shield. Also, the rear sight is adjustable on the EZ model with an Allen wrench. I just preferred the size of the original Shield 9mm for everyday carry.
