I am thinking about putting a Vortex Venom red dot sight on my .22 M&P Compact. Will it interfere with the cycling of the slide. Do all the M&Ps have the same size rear sight dovetail. I'm not sure which mount to buy. Thanks

Hi Danny! I have no idea as to answers to your questions, but would like to know if functioning has ever become an issue on this model after adding a little weight to the slide.

Best of luck, and I look forward to a description of whatever you come up with for a mount, a range report, and most of all, some photos! :)

This is the first .22 auto I have owned that has never jammed no matter what I feed it. Interferring with the slide by adding a little weight is my concern.

I don't have an answer for you, BUT, you could do a crude "bubba" test. Duct tape the weight of the venom to the top of the slide and see if it cycles ok. You could use coins, washers or some other item for the weight.
In my defense, I did say "crude bubba test".

Most pistols that have RMR plates also have slide cutouts to compensate. Being that the .22LR has just enough power to cycle in a semi auto not sure I would want to take a chance. I know the new Ruger 57 that is coming out, they only recommend using a red dot for 40gr bullets only. If you use the 27gr may not cycle

I agree with Tsb3, I was going to suggest the same thing.

Take along your normal ammo, and some CCI ammo with high FPS ratings.
Also, take a box of CCI Stingers, very powerful for a .22LR.

Something tells me the real cheap ammo won't work so well, but the better stuff should be OK.

I mounted a Burris Fast Fire III using a rear sight dove tail adapter on my .22 Compact. Federal 550 Bulk, Federal Auto Match and CCI Blazer would not reliably cycle. Since this ammo would function 100% without the red dot, my conclusion is the pistol can not handle the extra weight on the slide.
