I purchased a new 2.0 3.6” 40 cal (M&P). I have several boxes of Underwood 200 grain hard cast bullets that I used in my glock 23 with a match grade barrel from lone wolf. I traded the G23 and got the M&P 40 because I shoot it better and like it more! I looked for threads on the forum but can’t find a yes or no answer to wether or not the stick factory barrel can handle this load. The only reason I would even use this load is for the darn coyotes on my land that hassle my golden retriever. She(dog) is 85 pounds and the coyote that’s been around is about 50-70lbs. I live in the country and concerned that the coyote will mess with my dog. Mainly at night but I’ve seen it during the day. When I put the hard cast round in the barrel it appears to be fully supported(as much as the match grade barrel for the glock. Not going to put many of these rounds down range but may put a few. Anybody know or should I contact smith&wesson for this question. Thanks🇺🇸

I've shot cast lead bullets in all of my M&Ps and Shields. All are Gen1 series. No issues here with reliability or accuracy. Just my experience :-)

Lead is primarily a problem in barrels with polygonal rifling. As long as the barrel has traditional land and groove rifling, lead should be fine. S&W's M&P line barrels have at least as much case head support as the gen 4 Glocks and perhaps just a little bit more.
