I see laser training kits from G-sight and Mantis. Are these decent systems? Any recommendations? I have a Gen 1 Shield 9.

Thanks in advance.

There are a few different Laser Systems right now. And they may work differently.

The typical Laser Training System (that I've been using and loved it) includes these parts:
- laser beam source (SIRT pistol, or laser cartridge). In you case - 9mm laser cartridge will work the best
- camera (PC webcam, tablet, smartphone)
- software / app
Such system simulates Range, drills or live scenarios.
Examples of the system:
- LASR App
- iTarget
- LaserHIT
- IDryFire
- Strikeman

Mantis works different way. It analyzes your muzzle movement. It's addition to either dry fire of live fire practice.

I personally use LASR App and I'm happy with it.

I’m not a fan of these laser ‘training’ gizmos.

I think you can acquire better skills the old fashioned way: dry fire. Less expensive and better training.

From a skill development perspective, folks I’ve dealt with who use them don’t develop the fundamental skill of focusing on the front sight: they’re fixated on looking at the target. It’s a struggle to get them to break that habit and focus on the sights.

I have the G-Sight system with their 9mm laser cartridge and the free app on my android phone. It is very simple to use, you can find youtube videos on how it works. (or their web sight).
It is not as sophisticated as some of the other systems that offer timed drills or live scenarios but I find it very useful in practicing trigger control and sight alignment. I paid 40 bucks for mine about a year ago which I think is a lot cheaper than paying the going rates of 40 to 50 cents a round for cheap range ammo plus range fees for target practice.
That's my opinion for what it's worth.

To be honest I don't see any reason why Laser Training System may cause focusing problem.
I've been using LASR App for years, developing my skills and actually it helped me to learn how to focus on front sight.
This App also helped me to learn how to shoot multiple targets fast - focusing on targets.

Any laser or other helping tools should be considered as additions, not a live fire replacement.

I bought the ELMS by G-Sight because I liked the 3 O-ring configuration. I find that seeing the strike of the round gives me valuable feed back and makes dry firing practice more enjoyable. The app has a $5 add on so that it works as a shot timer. Obviously, for the striker fired M&P, I can't do rapid multiple shots, but draw to first hit practice at home is great. I can do multi-round practice at my range.
