Recall for some Shield EZs
M&P SHIELD® EZ® Pistol Important Safety Recall Notice for Pistols Manufactured Between March 1st, 2020 & October 31st, 2020
Quote:
PRODUCT AFFECTED:
This notice applies ONLY to M&P® Shield™ EZ pistols (including Performance Center® models) manufactured between March 1, 2020 and October 31, 2020, and only to a small percentage of that population. It does NOT apply to all SHIELD™ pistols. To determine whether your M&P Shield EZ Pistol is affected, check the label on the box to determine date of manufacture (see image below), and if manufacture date is between March 1, 2020 and October 31, 2020 – your pistol may be affected. In this case (or if you are unsure of your date of manufacture), simply go to MPShieldEZrecall.com and input your serial number, or call 888-871-7114 .
|
See the recall website for other information and a serial number lookup.

Sounds like a very small amount of guns might be affected, but it's potentially a very dangerous scenario if you did have this issue! This potential malfunction is just another important reason to always ALWAYS have your gun pointed in a safe direction!

Good news and bad news.
Good: my new 9EZ was produced on my birthday.
Bad: the new 9EZ I picked up this morning does have to go back to the factory for the recall.

Be sure to go to the Notice, scroll down, and enter your serial number. Ours manufactured April 4, 2020, is not part of the recall, even though it was manufactured between the dates given.

Recall M&P EZs
Looks like we have one to go back. Waiting for information. Quick question: Does anyone know if a non FFL can send a pistol back to S&W with the S&W provided return label through the USPS system or will I need to go the FEDEX/UPS route? Thanks for any info.

I think you need FEDEX to ship a firearm.
This is great news, only 6 hours too late! I just ordered one online this AM for my daughter for Christmas. I'll have to check and see when I get it. Thanks for the info.

The S&W provided label should be pre-paid with a specific carrier. It will come with packaging instructions for you. Probably smart to keep the package contents unrecognizable, as much as possible. Be sure to get a receipt at drop off.

In the past S&W has emailed me a label and it was only for FedEx. The label was addressed to "SAW" at the Massachusetts address.

Yes, an individual can send a handgun directly to the manufacturer for service, using an approved carrier, usually with either tracked overnight or two day service. This accelerated shipping keeps the package from sitting around where it might be identified and re-routed, in one way or another, to an unauthorized party.
Another interesting note: in most states a repaired gun can be returned directly to you without going through an FFL.

Yes, in PA, we can get our handguns shipped right back to us from factory repair or whatever. As far as I know is we can't ship USPS but can through FEDEX. I've even had FEDEX pick up my guns about 3-4 times at my door, pre-programmed by the manufacturer. Just had to be here. And, since I've already purchased the firearm after the background check, the Factory can ship repaired gun to me. Just sign. I love Pennsylvania, even though it gets cold here, like every year at this time! (I'm starting to notice a trend on that one. The leaves change colors, it gets colder, etc.)

I sent mine back this morning.
The shipping label from S&W is for FedEx. A FedEx Medium Express box is a great fit, being the right height, maybe an inch longer and a few inches wider than the original S&W box for the EZ.
S&W's email containing the label gives specific instructions for using FedEx's pickup service if you don't want to go to a drop-off location.

My EZ9 was dropped off at FedEx earlier today. Almost 500 rounds through it with no issues, but it was part of the recall - so off it went. I requested a shipping label late last night and got it this morning.

Interesting that the faulty ones are tied to just a few months' production.

I could be wrong, but I believe that law requires that the gun must go back to the same address it came from.

That recall said up to Oct. 31, 2020. I picked mine up and the date code has it made 11-03-2020. I tried to call just to be sure, but everyone in the USA and the rest of the free world must have been calling, too. I'll let it alone. But, at the gun shop, I found a 629-6, 2016 vintage. They took my Ruger GP100, 5", .327 FM Lipsey and $200 and I got the .44 Magnum.

I checked my serial number, it wasn't recalled. Then I became curious enough to go through the stacks of boxes - I bought mine in 2018. I had no idea I'd had it that long. It may be time for the "home" for BB.

The factory will not send you a return label for USPS... it will likely be for FedEx or UPS.

No need to call the website has a form - you enter your serial # and if you need to send it in the form is right there and they email you a pre-printed label. Mine was for FedEx.
Home | SmithWesson
You can even use the web site to check the serial # of a gun you are going to purchase. Vendors should be sending back any invloved in the recall.

Speculation:
They may have had an issue keeping up with demand and used an outside source temporarily? Perhaps they stopped using that supplier?

I bought my daughter both the 380 and 9. The 380 is OK and the 9 has to go back.
Disgusting, but it doesn't just happen to S&W. My Sig P365 had to have the Fire Control Module and something else changed before I could shoot it.

Recall EZ9 with no thumb safety
I just shipped my wife's EZ9 back to S&W this morning, the serial number was one affected by the recall. S&W is paying shipping both ways. Very pleased so far.
We had just purchased it from gunbroker, hadn't had a chance to even fire it.
We have one EZ380 and another EZ9 with thumb safety that were not recalled. Both excellent shooters and very easy to rack.

I sent mine back on Dec 1. I checked the tracking number and they received it on the 3rd. I received an email on the Dec 7 that it was received and being processed. I called today to find out when the 10-day turnaround time starts. She said the day I shipped it. That being said I should get it back by tomorrow, Dec. 10, right? However, Customer service told me the gun is in for repair now and that I'll get an email with the tracking number when it's shipped back out. I'm thinking it won't be back by tomorrow. LOL

The CSR may be wrong.
I sent mine back on November 24th. It would have gotten to S&W on the 26th, but that was Thanksgiving. S&W was closed on the 27th. The 28th and 29th were a weekend with no deliveries. So my return was delivered to S&W on November 30th. I am still waiting to hear from S&W that my gun is being returned.

Here is my timeline so far:
request for label sent 11/23/2020
label rec'd by email 11/24/2020
Dropped at FedEx 11/24/2020
Delivered to S&W 11/30/2020, 8:30 am
S&W sent email acknowledging receipt 12/4/20
Ten business days from when it was in their hands would be 12/11, or 12/14 if you don't count the day they received it. I'll be happy if it is shipped back to me by 12/18, which would be 10 business days from them acknowledging they received it. Of course, sooner would be better.

I'm glad I saw this. A friend recently bought a 9EZ at Bass Pro. Yesterday we went to the range to break it in. Nice gun. She's happy with it. When I saw the recall, I texted her the info, and she found out this morning it has to go back. She's bummed, but hopefully the turnaround will be reasonably fast.

I just read the return shipping email which was sent by FedEx 10 minutes ago:
11/24 - shipped to S&W
11/30 - received by S&W
12/10 - shipped to me
12/14 - scheduled delivery
So a 9-day turnaround for the gun in S&W's hands.

My EZ came back today: - 11/24 - shipped to S&W
- 11/30 - arrived at S&W
- 12/10 - shipped to me
- 12/12 - received
It looks like the gun was inspected and no problem was found. The work order shows 15 categories for "repaired:" or ""replaced:" and nothing is checked.

Mine came directly back to my house.
Federal law allows the return of a gun to the address from which it was shipped. If the return is NOT to the address from which it was shipped, the gun must go to an FFL. Some states apparently require any returns to go to an FFL.
Oddly enough, the FedEx delivery guy not only did not require my acceptance signature, but refused to allow me to sign, mumbling something about "policy ... COVID ... distance ... touch."

I had FedEx pick it up at my house, and I informed the driver that a firearm was in it. I tried dropping it off myself but they were all places where they only had a drop off box (like a mail box) and you can't use those for a firearm. Still waiting for it to be fixed and returned by S&W (it was delivered to them in MA on November 11).

Interesting. Yours was shipped back in a week and it took them 8 days just to acknowledge receiving mine. What a difference a day makes.
They received mine on 12/4 and acknowledged receipt on 12/12 indicating that it is "being processed".

One word of caution. Keep track of those packages. Not saying it is widespread but thank the Lord I had the app for notifications.
On a return trip one of my “special packages” ended up being delivered to an address 35 miles north of me. I immediately made a claim within the hour and it escalated very quickly. It took 10 days of worry (without any updates) to finally get thru the right channels to get the package back.
If I would have waited one day who knows what might have happened. Plenty of bad characters everywhere it seems.
Impossible that it had been misdelivered.

Another word of warning...
S&W Closes for the week between X-Mas and New Year, so if you haven't already sent yours in, wait until after New Year.

EZ9 Recalled
Looks like my EZ 9 is going for a plane ride. Anyone know how long till you get the shipping notice?

If you are talking about the email with the shipping label, they sent mine the day after I requested it.
If you are talking about how long to return it, it varies. I suspect that the folks getting them back already were guns that had nothing wrong and it was just inspect and return.

I called yesterday and they told me my gun was in shipping. I still have not received a tracking number that it is on the way back. I'm on day 15 from date shipped.
