Hey guys, first post. I am planning to get into steel shooting at the beginning of the year and uspsa production alittle later in the year. Really Depends on ammo availability. Might have to push starting either sport further back if I need to fund a reloading setup.

I am running a 2.0 9mm FS. Will be installing apex dcaek using stock springs instead of included duty springs.
The other thing I want to do to this pistol is change sights.
I was looking into one of these

Dawson Precision S&W M&P Fixed Charger Sight Set - Black Rear & Fiber Optic Front - Dawson Precision, Inc.

Dawson Precision S&W M&P Fixed Competition Sight Set - Black Rear & Fiber Optic Front - Dawson Precision, Inc.

Not sure what the difference is between these two options. Am I good buying a set or should I be looking at buying front and rear individually with a different size?
Also are these legal for uspsa production?
Sorry for the noob questions.
Thanks

The Charger sights have a square front edge that allow you to charge the slide against a belt or other ledge in the event that you lose the ability to use one hand (think “tactical”). The fixed Competition rear sight is angled back like a Novak rear sight. Either set is okay for USPSA competition.

Here is the rear Charger sight on my XD45:

Thanks for sharing the pic. I now see the difference in the two.
Also good to hear that these would be uspsa production legal

Per the description the Charger has a narrower notch in the rear sight. For the type of competitions you mentioned I would prefer the wider notch on the Competition sight.

Fiber optic inserts often depart from the sight. Judging by the scores of sponsored shooters on my squad when that happens, it's gonna cost you some points/penalties.

If you're going to go that route, get a rod of appropriate size/color for your range bag along with nippers and a means of installing.

Good point. The sights come with extra in both red and green so i will make sure to have that packed plus snips and a lighter

Im about to pull the trigger on it, just looking to see if i can get lucky and find them somewhere on sale
no luck so far

Have Dawsons on most of my pistols....I even changed out the front sight on my .45 Shield (my edc)....

I love having that nice, thin, bright front sight with the stock rear, plenty of dailight showing and is easily picked up... A lot of front sight I have trouble seeing, but not these...

As far as losing a fiber tube...I had one break and fall out at a Steel Challenge match...Not a huge geal not having a spare tube in my bag... I knocked the rest of it loose and pressed on..It was a nice day and the "spot" where the pipe was was now a white dot!... Shot the rest of the match with it that way..LOL

Great sights, good folks to work with...

I have Dawson FOs on my idpa pistol. Fantastic sights outdoors. One thing I discovered is the Dawsons use the smaller of the common FO tube sizes, .045" I think. The other common size is .060" so drilling out the sight w/ a generic 1/16" (= .062") is real easy and gets you a noticeably larger bright dot. Be sure to try the different colors. When my wife shot my gun the first time w/ the Dawson she said something like, so did you order one for me too? So I did. I also got spare tubes in 4 colors. handed them to her and said hold them all up right next to each other so they get the same amount of light. Which one 'appears' brighter to you? I use the green/yellow but the red is brighter for her.

I installed the competition sight set on my Glock 48 and it has worked well for me. I found that I preferred the green insert. While I keep spare rods in my range bag I haven't had to replace one yet.

I also installed the Dawson FO front sight on my M&P 22 Compact, retaining the factory rear sight. It too is working out and has been durable.

I have installed Dawson Fiber Optic front sights on both an M&P .22 Compact and on my EZ9. Both were a big improvement on the stock sights.

I have found that a quick light touch with the end of a hot shouldering iron will create enough bulge to hold the rods in for good. Do rear first, cut the rod on the front about 1/16” long and do that end. Works for me. I have Dawson FO on several pistols and ordered a set today for a new Shield 2.0
