PRO MAG M&P 9 SHIELD Magazine 10 RDS?
Hey Guys,
Been looking @ these off & on for some while now.
Most of the reviews are decent. Yet, I've heard a few old timers say some hateful things about Pro Mag in general!
What has been your experience with "Pro Mag" in regards to the 9mm Shield?
I have a few extra 8 rd mags, but I wouldn't mind stepping up a couple of rounds. I also see there are some optional base plates that add up to 4 extra rounds!
Hmmm...

Resist the temptation. Pony up for the factory magazines. There's a reason that I don't have any Experience with Pro Mag in the Shield.

I'm sure others will differ, but I don't/won't run anything but OEM mags in my Shield.

Look at Magguts. Adds 2 rounds.

We can generalize and say that in handguns, you must stick to OEM exclusively. Nobody makes a M&P mag better than Smith, Glock for Glock, HK, etc.
Exceptions:
Most supplied 1911 mags are cheesy GI type. Throw it away and get Wilson, Tripp, McCormick, Ed Brown, Mec-gar, Metalform.
Browning Hi Power works with Mec-gar. Mec-gar mags
for any gun can be relied upon and indeed they supply OEM for Smith and many others.

Promag junk
My experience with promags is with their 1911 stainless 8 rounds mags. Feed lips cracked after less than 100 rounds on both mags. Feeding and extraction issues galore. Lifetime warranty is a joke. Warranty is only good for the life of the mag.
St add y away from promags

Your pic makes that Shield look awful! Might as well go with a full size gun. BECAUSE the BUTT is the hardest to conceal on any concealable handgun.

Pro Mag is a false economy.
Example: VP9 OEM is $45. Promag knockoff is $20. You save $25, more than half the price.
But for a lousy extra 25 bucks, you get a mag made by the factory that you can be your life on and won't let you down later. Pro mag might work out of the package, might not. Might last a while, might not.

That looks hideous...magguts, to me, is the best way to get a Shield to 10 rounds.
If you’re really just after round count... sell it and buy a P365 or Hellcat.

For me -- NO to the Magguts. Stick to OEM mags. If I felt the need for the extra 3 rounds or so, I'd get the 365 or Hellcat like Rob613 says. An extra 3 rounds isn't worth $600 for a new pistol imo. 8 rounds of ultra-reliability is enough for me.

Every single ProMag I have purchased sat about a mm or two low in the gun because the magazine catch slot is mislocated. Every. Single. One. Eventually this will fail the gun. I'm embarassed at a learning curve that saw me buy them for Glock17, Sig P225, Sig SP2340, the Glock19, and the CZ40P. All of them had the same issue, and on the Glock mags I had to cut a tiny chip of the polymer away to get them to hold open on the last round. At least with the Glock mags I had the excuse of the magazine ban until it sunset, when I stocked up on factory mags.

Stick with the S&W factory magazines or if you absolutely have to increase capacity go with MagGuts +1 or +2.

Beware with ProMag magazines. Some are good, most are bad, some are simply trash.

Some people have good experiences with Pro Mag. I did not. Pro Mag is great if you want to learn how to clear jams or maybe extra mags for the range. Do not use them for self defense.

Never ran a pro mag in my Shield, had one for my full size.... I never ran it in IDPA I just didn't trust it. It fed ok just didn't lock back at an empty chamber. I was looking at mag extensions a month or so ago and there is a bunch out there. Taylor freelance, taran tactical, stryke industries, but it does make it hard to hide. If I need extra round I carry another OEM... just my opinion.

This. A promags only legit use is practicing malfunction drills.
If you want more rounds in your shield mag look at taran, shield, hyvee, or magguts extensions.

That is the jest of this post.
Reading is still fundamental.
One more time for those sitting in the back or riding the slow bus:
Range & Practice ONLY!
NO EDC!

First post ever....Thanks for posting this question and all the replies cause now at least I know to stay away from the ProMags. Doesn't help me though being from Jersey trying to hunt down a 10 round mag for my brand new M&P Compact...Ugh!!

I would shoot my pistol as a single shot before buying a promag.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the S&W Forums!
For aftermarket magazines that actually work, look for Mec-Gar magazines. Theirs are usually reliable and they are the OEM magazine supplier for a good number of firearms manufacturers.
