Purchased a Shield Plus this week and I am very pleased with it. Very accurate right out of the box.

Problem: Magazines are nowhere to be found. I called Smith & Wesson as they do not show any online and you have to call to order anyway and inquired about the availability of magazines for the Plus. Was told it would be late April before they would be available.

Several vendors online show them but all are out of stock and not available for backorder. Sure wish S&W would have built up some inventory of magazines to be available with the release of the Plus.

Other then not being able to find Magazines I really like the New Plus. The trigger is very good and needs to be expanded to the rest of their line. Will be part of my carry rotation as soon as get a few more rounds through it.

Really? In case you missed it we are in the middle of a pandemic and a massive buying frenzy. Nothing is available, let alone accessories for a brand new model that just hit the market. You're lucky they have manufactured the amount of guns they have thus far, let alone spare mags.

I will rub salt in the wound. My shield came in yesterday and had 4 magazines with it. 1-11 and 3-13's. But I have to wait to get it out of jail. The state of Washington thinks it may go crazy and go off by itself. Takes 10 business days to convince it that it will be ok here in Washington.

I thought they were 10s and 13s...where did you find an 11?

S & W has learned the lesson of having product available at its launch, a good thing. It's hard to say about extra magazines; they may have underestimated demand, or in the current buying market they may have ordered all they could but still fell short.

No problem finding the gun, it is available at several gun shops in my area but none of them have or got magazines. All magazines are probably being held back by S&W for the guns they are shipping. Hopefully they will catch up soon.

This is a horrible and not valid excuse. I too purchased a Shield Plus this week and found the same lack of magazines for purchase. S&W doesn’t even have the mag on their site.

The country is open. Companies are producing products, and competitors have no issues selling mags. Especially with Congress or the old guy in the WH threatening to not allow us to buy 13 round mags, we need to be able to purchase them, as mag capacity is the key value of this pistol.

I just saw and handled a Shield Plus yesterday at the LGS. An interesting magazine design, to be sure. May take a minute for aftermarkets to be available . . .

this is VERY common for a new pistol entering the marketplace, especially S&W... Mecgar (or whoever is making the OEM magazines) are probably working overtime just to supply the amount of new guns going out with magazines and don't have much leftover to send out for spares.

when things quiet down (even if a pandemic is going on) you'll start seeing them hit the market again. Happens every time a new gun is introduced

I take it that you've never bought a 'New Platform' pistol before.
One of the Drawbacks to being the 1st kid on the block to get a new product is finding extra mags for them, regardless of brand (except for, maybe Glock). It's nothing new. It's been that way with new platform pistols for over 15 Yrs. When the Shield 1st appeared in March of 2012, extra mags didn't show up until June or July. When they did start showing up, they were sold out within a day or two of arrival.

I would not be a bit surprised if it takes 2-4 Months for a decent number of mags to start showing up, since Everyone who bought a Shield Plus will be looking for them.

For every "new to market" gun I've bought, I had problems finding spare mags. That was compounded by "current events" (generally political) that resulted in shortages even for "oldies".

My Shield 1.0 was one of them. My PPQ, VP9, even my M&P9C (1.0). The only "new to me" guns I didn't have much trouble with were 1911s and my 92FS.

I don’t disagree, but in this climate, where politicians are threatening to ban access to large capacity magazines like the new 13 Plus mags, we need to be able to purchase them.

I'm sure they'll be available within 30 days of release.

When did S&W start shipping guns with four magazines?

Everyone I have ever seen come with two.

Mec-Gar will be really busy for a while, They make magazines for many other manufacturers & are in Italy IIRC.. Think Beretta..
If you do see a separate magazine available they will be $50+ea because they can get it = Supply & Demand..
Look around & you will see 7-8 Round M&P Shield Magazines running like $40+ea IF you can find them that is..
I scored an extra 1.0 8 round for Our Shield 2.0 a while back for $20 & keep thinking about the other one I left behind..
Must get back over there FAST to see that empty peg.

I too bought my Shield Plus and waiting to receive it from my FFL. I've been looking for 13 mags and has several have found out, nothing is site. FYI. Someone is selling one on one of the bidding gunsites, and the bid is up to $87 the last time I looked. That's for one! Regular price is $30-40 whenever S&W gets them out, which may be in 4-6 months.

Back in the early 90's I bought HK's newly released P7M10 for my duty pistol and needed a minimum of 3 mags... none were to be found...I think I waited for over 6 months for 1 mag. I came real close to the Chief making me carry the departments newly purchased Glock 23!

Since those magazines are double stack, do the standard M&P, say, M&P 2.0 9 magazines fit? I have two M&PS, and was thinking of a Shield as a thinner lighter companion for more comfortable IWB carry. Then I'd have backup magazines.

Thank you. I'll guess the angle has to be less, to keep the grip width down. When some mentioned a plus grip was thicker, I thought it might have been as thick as a "standard" M&P.

How about all Shield Plus magazines are going into boxes with brand new Shield Plus guns. Imagine if they had guns they couldn’t sell because there weren’t enough mags to put in every box because some people want extra mags. Once mag production catches up so every gun will have the required mags in the box, S&W can then worry about making mags for people who need extra mags. I was in the auto parts business for many years, & when we couldn’t get parts, it was because every part made went to cars being produced on the line. The production of replacement parts was secondary to the production of parts to build cars. GARY.

I think that I saw two or types types of M&P Shield Mags at Academy in Webster this afternoon. Don't remember shield plus by name if it is different from shield. They only had one or two of each. Good luck!

Wow, that's crazy. I wonder if whoever bought that $305 dollar magazine is also stacking up cases of $800/case 9mm FMJ. At $305 it would have been cheaper to buy another gun since they come with two magazines.

I also wonder if whoever the seller is will actually get paid. Since you can leave negative feedback on buyers at GB it is not as bad as Ebay. But in my limited experience selling there having someone win an auction and back out is a problem.

That’s insanity. I’d buy another pistol and sell it with the 10 round mag before I’d pay $300 for 13 round mag alone.

If Mec-gar does make the S&W Shield Plus magazine it may be a real long time before we start seeing them for sale here. Thats if they only make them in Italy! Italy and Europe are still having outbreaks of Covid-19 and might be shutting down again! The EU is not purchasing the available Covid-19 vaccine for their citizens. Many Italians are traveling to Bosnia in an attempt to receive the Jab!

Well i find it quite funny how all you people defend that S&W when they KNEW demand was going to be high, they KNEW talk of a mag ban might happen, and what do they do introduce a good gun(the best shield version yet), but the inability of getting extra mags. This is just plain stupid. Yes, other companies except for Glock and Sig have done this. Well I must say the people here are worse than glock fan boys. Selling mine and getting another P365 just as good or better of a gun and mags are easy to get. I feel sorry for all the suckers that bought a shield plus. We certainly are telling everyone get a Hellcat, P365, or glock 43(shield arms mags). I mean a 10rd in that gun is pointless.

Believe it or not, the vast majority of people buying this gun will never purchase extra magazines for it. S&W would have been foolish to wait until they were available to release the gun. For someone that is buying a gun for self defense, which is the Shield Plus's target market, two mags is fine. They are not going to be attending classes with a lot of rounds fired, shooting their Shields in competition that requires extra magazines, shooting so many rounds they wear out the springs in the two included mags or stepping on magazines while practicing tactical reloads.

While extra magazines may be a requirement for you and me the world does not revolve around us.

Does that count as a negligent discharge?

I guess you don't remember that P365 mags were just as difficult to find when IT 1st hit the market, eh?
(or did you wait a few Months before buying it?)

I cut 1 loop off of the magazine spring in the extended mag. Still very tough to rack the slide, but there is a difference. But now the slide doesn't lock open on last round as well. I make boo boo. Going to have to wait for replacement springs to hit the market( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) or maybe I can get a spring for Shield 2.0 and cut it to the right number of loops.

Mine came with two. One 13-round magazine and one 10-round magazine.

Sig 365 mags AND hellcat mags were hard to find when they first came into the market. PLUS they were introduced BEFORE the pandemic and BEFORE this current administration which had basically halted everything/ anything to do with guns, ammo, training etc etc
I think S&W was smart on making a 10 round mag gun (and 13) For all those mag restricted states, S&W can sell to all 50 states (I think maybe NY is a 7 round state) Unlike the Springfield hellcat which has the 11 and 13 round mags. Do companies that big care about the 5 or 6 states that are mag restricted ? Prob not. But still a smart marketing move to be able to see to all 50 states. I have had problems with my shield mags in my Glock 43 so will stick to the factory 10 round mags. Also, I don't think everyone on this site are "Fan Boys" I do think we just Like guns (Gun Fan Boys?) The mags for the shield plus will come around soon trust me give it a few months

I live in CT and my pc 9 plus came with a 10rd and 13rd pinned at ten by my local shop at no extra charge, and they could have. I would be happy to have a couple more pinned 13's so at least I would have the extra finger hold. None to be found.

Yeah…no thanks. I get that the gun is new, but it’s been out for for weeks now, and there are none for online retail purchase.

With the number of different models they have, and the fact that the guns themselves are available, that’s a huge miss by Smith.

I was going to start carrying the Shield Plus after some use at the range to make sure it’s working ok, but may put that off and keep using the Sig or maybe even get a Hellcat RDP and let my older eyes try using a RDS.

Yeah... Cutting off loops is not the answer.
They are manufactured with that number of loops for a reason.

Well the theory that magazines would become available about 30 days after the gun's March release is not holding water. Here we are in mid May. No magazines.

Getting on a wait list is the best I can do today. I'm not paying the price of a low-line pistol for one spare mag....

There are some 13-rounders available on GB right now for about $50 BIN price. A seller named Brohey has about 30 in stock as of this posting.
