For those who have a Shield 9mm 1.0, which magazine do you prefer to shoot with, 7 or 8 round?
Which one, in your opinion, is more comfortable to shoot with?

Looking to pickup a couple more magazines, but I haven't really handled one long enough to get a good feel. When I do finally get mine next week I will be able to handle it more to see which one I prefer.

Right now I'm just looking for how others feel between the 2.

Thanks.

I need the longer mag and the grip sleeve to keep the grip planted in my hand and stop the gun twisting sideways when firing and keep the sights on target for faster follow-up shots.

Back when I had my Shield 9 (replaced it with an EZ), I usually shot the 8’s as I “needed” the extra length for control and comfort. Seems i had a pinky extension on the 7 round to help make it feel similar.

I really prefer the 8 round magazines all-around. That said, I also like the 7 round magazine WITH an XTech +2 magazine extension (giving 9 shot capacity) nstalled for shooting practice at the range. The XTech is great quality and runs flawlessly. It is $11 le$$ expen$ive than other mag extensions.

I carry with the 7 round mag and a Pachmayer grip extension. Very comfortable and does not hurt conceal-ability. Even when practicing at the range the 7 round plus the extension is more comfortable than the 8 round (and for whatever reason the 8's don't always lock the slide back). I practice with the 8's but I only carry them as backups.

I recently bought two Magguts kits. The +1 and +2. I might phase the 8 rounders out of my carry routine all together. The most comfortable and concealable combination is the 7 round mag with +1 kit and the Pachmayer grip extension. Then for backup I plan to carry the +2 on a 7 rounder. Still one more round than the factory 8 but without the annoying spacer.

You plan on spending your money based solely on the opinion of strangers? How each mag feels to US in OUR hand is irrelevant to how which one YOU will prefer.

Also, if you plan on carrying, one may conceal easier than the other, but you MAY shoot the one that DOESN'T conceal easier better than the one that DOES conceal easier.

You got one of each with your Shield take the time to shoot each and decide for yourself.

Of course... You ma have started this thread with the sole intent to see how many would respond. ;) :D

then I will bite, I am one of those nut guys that thinks it is very important to carry a spare mag. if I would ever need this spare mag chances are I would be doing a reload. with the 7 round mag it will drop free, the 8 round hangs up on the fat part of my hand and I have to grab it to remove.
Not really a problem as I carry it the way it was meant 7 round in gun 8 round as back-up. not a lot of difference in accuracy for me at defensive distance. I ordered 3 extra 8 rounders because that's what works for me.
Good luck, carry on.

No Sir, I am NOT going to spend my money on others opinions.
Yes, I did get 2 mags with my shield, but if you read my thread again, you will see that I did say that, I have not received my Shield and won't get it until next week.

So, yes, I am looking for "opinions" and like other things, everyone has one, and I am happy to read what others have to say.

As for posting my thread to see how many may respond, no one needs to respond to what they think is a silly question.

I usually run the 8 rounder. But I installed The Top Shot Pro. mag base plates on my 7 round mags, check them out on Amazon. My pinky finger catches it perfect with the base plate extension 2 pack for $11.00.

I prefer the 7 round magazine for carry & the 8 rounder for range use..
Love the way that the factory 8 round magazine feels & gives a full grip + the ability to shrink the pistols foot print with the 7 round magazine for IWB carry = WIN WIN!!
It seems like the 8 round magazines are easier to find & have never come across an extra 7 rounder in my trips to the gunshow, gun stores ever..
Bought the last two 8 rounders I came across for $20ea new in the package at a local Pawn Shop.. Thanks S&S Brothers..
JFYI ours is the 2.0 9mm Shield & the 1.0 magazines are exactly the same other than more texture on the grip sleeve..
In fact the 2.0 Shield texture is the best feeling pistol I have ever held in my hands as it stays glued in the hands & no need for sandpaper grip tape or Hogue.. It's perfect as it comes..
Bought ours for $249.99 the Fall of 2019 with my Twin Brother, They have more than doubled in price since, I saw a 1.0 M&P Compact 9mm for sale for $569.95 a while back = WOW!!
We got a Deal for sure.. OR every place is now price gouging because they can..

This is interesting..., I have a Shield 45 and if that extender comes apart like a regular magazine and NOT like that stupid Smith 7 rounder design it might be worth switching just to avoid the aggravation...

I prefer the 7 round mags for the Shield. Makes it a little easier to conceal. I've installed the Magguts +2 on a couple of them. Only adds about 1/4" to the length. I don't have huge hands tho, so all fingers fit comfortably on the grip. It's funny, but when I do use the 8 round mag at the range, it feels awkward. I guess it's whatever you get used to.

Getting the Hyve extension off is not as easy as popping off the OEM baseplate. It's a lot easier to put on than it is to remove.

I preferred the 8-rounders. The pistol didn't feel bad in my hand with the 7-rounder, but most definitely better with the 8. So much so that I gave my 7-rounder to a buddy.

10+1

Stock 8 round magazine with +2 Mag-guts magazine spring for a 10+1 carry (without extending the grip). Hogue Hand-all rubber grip sleeve and Pearce pinky extension on the magazine.
