So I'm trying to disassemble my Shield 45 slide for a deep clean in the ultrasonic cleaner but the striker assembly backplate just won't budge. All my other M&Ps just slide right off sliding the striker assembly back to relieve the pressure. But this one is being a huge pain.

What could possibly be preventing that cover plate from sliding off? I don't want to damage anything hulking it off with a screwdriver or pliers. So before I do that, any ideas?

Press down the white plastic striker guide only, not whole striker assembly.
Be sure you move the plastic part farthest you can so the tension is released completely and plastic was taken of backplate's groove.
I don't think it is a need to use any tools to move the backplate. It's loose enough to be moved with your thumb once the tension is released.

On both my 45 shield slide striker plates I've had to easily use a thin screw driver blade and carefully work it into the top while pushing down on the striker sleeve. If your real careful you wont make a mark.

I replaced mine with an NDZ rear plate that has diamond plate traction on it and it thumbs right off now while putting pressure on the sleeve.

The 9 and 40 slide right off the 45 not so much

I have three M&Ps. Sometimes the backplate is difficult to slide out the first time it's removed. You may need needle-nosed pliers to get it started. Anyway, here's what I do: I push in the striker block button to release the striker. Then I use a 90 degree angled dental pick to pull the striker sleeve in front of the striker tab forward/down so the sleeve moves out of the slot on the backplate. I could use a small flat-blade screwdriver to move the striker sleeve, but a dental pick seems like a more elegant technique.;) (I impress myself every time when I do it that way.) Nevertheless, use whatever tool works for you.
It will come off eventually!
