Does S&W sell barrels?

I've got a Shield Plus PC (ported barrel) version that I really like and carry. I'm still fairly new to carrying and I guess hadn't thought through the ported barrel scenario and possibly having to shoot from retention. So I'm thinking that an un-ported barrel might have been the better choice. I've looked but so far don't see where I can buy a 3.1 inch un-ported barrel for my Shield Plus. It's Saturday so I can't call S&W until Monday. So does anyone know if I can buy that barrel? I would rather not have to buy another whole gun just to get the barrel that I want.

Thanks

Yeah, you can get a factory barrel. Good idea too. I don't like the ported either. After you buy one, you can probably sell yours on here.
Smith & Wesson Barrels

Thanks luvsmiths.
I do like the ported barrel though. But just realizing that it could be a problem if I had to shoot from retention.

From what I've seen all non EZ Shield barrels of the same length and caliber are interchangeable. 1.0, 2.0 and Plus.

S&W may not be selling factory barrels. They did, back when the Shield first came out, but so many Shield40 people were buying 9mm barrels, that they stopped (at least, for a while).

Give them a call/email to be sure.
There are several aftermarket companies that sell quality barrels.

You are saying "shoot from retention", so I'll guess you are talking about actually shooting while inside a pocket?

Well, the pocket and garment is going to be destroyed with a single shot and it won't matter if your pistol is ported or not. All of that fire, flame, pressure and fury -IS- going to exit the barrel.

Further... if you are discharging a semiautomatic from a pocket, you might well plan on having the capability for one shot only as your chance of malfunction will be high, likely depending on the size of the pocket and the position of the pistol.

This sounds like a long, odd route you're taking for what is likely to be a poor choice in the first place. If you believe there is much, if ANY chance that you'll be shooting in defense from inside a pocket, you might put some thought in to moving to a revolver.

There is a much larger discussion of value here. It's probably not what you intended with this thread, but it still exists.

Try THIS
Blem, but who cares? Will function fine and who's gonna see it anyway? Quite inexpensive.

I've bought numerous M&P parts from this guy.

Thanks for your reply, but shooting from my pocket was not what I had in mind. Now mind you, I have not taken a concealed carry class yet (taking one this Saturday), but from watching YT videos my understanding of 'shooting from retention' is shooting one handed just after clearing the holster, or clearing the holster and joining the support hand to the gun, but without pressing it out. Shooting with the gun at your chest. That is my understanding of 'shooting from retention'. In a close quarters situation you're keeping the gun close to your body. Make sense?

So in that scenario a ported barrel could very well blow stuff up into my face, and without eye protection (I don't wear glasses normally) that would be a problem. I'll see what the instructors say about it when I take my class this weekend.

wbwanzer,

You were very clear in what you stated and I understood as I had/still have the same concern with my Shield PC. In some situations, especially close quarters where you may need to keep the pistol close in to your body for good weapon retention, having the ports a foot or so below your face is a real concern.
